Arrow Be Thou for the People (FMA Beat' Em Up) - New Game Play Screens Up...

Well, being a hard core Full Metal Alchemist fan (hence the avatar and sig which i made myself for your information) Ive decided to do something that I will play, although im PSPless. so, this is being made in LUA for my own benefit. Yes, I know LUA is despised and whatnot, but only because the developers of such arent quite at the level of expertise to create what they thought up. Im hoping this wont be the case with me and get LUA some dignity back (as Shine and yoursam and others have done here and there).

Anywho, this will be a 'game' based off the Adult Swim flash game 'Iron and Flame'. Since I dont have any real deadline nor obstacle that isnt too challenging for me (atleast, everything ive thought ahead about) this should in time be completed. I havent a clue when, but sometime in the near future im hoping...

So far, Ive been experimenting and completely finishing things as I go so there isnt a need for an update, unless its strictly gameplay wise (no menu editing or other garbage).

It will almost be an exact replica of how Iron and Flame, exceot there wont be a fake Z buffer as there is in the flash version (meaning you cant move into or out of the screen to those who are a little naieve on co-ordinate planes). So, ill have to compensate by 2, maybe 3, levels one can jump to and fro from (kind of like how mario is, but much mroe violent).

Im not guaranteeing my sucess on this, but I have nothing to lose as the scene is pratically dead anyways If you know LUAs syntax and are somewhat near an intermidate or greater level of game programming theory knowledge and know what and like the anime/manga/etc. of Full Metal Alchemist, than if you wish to help in the production of this, thats all fine and dandy, although im quite sure I can get quite far on my own, the more that help, the less work time if balanced equally.

As of now, i cant progress until i can get some GFX (sprites, few backgrounds, logo), some sound effects (transmutations, clicks, explosions, etc.) and I do need maybe 2 PSP-owners to test as I go since having nothing but Windows version of Lua Player, i havent a clue as to how itll run on the PSP, as Access_Denied's game (forgot name, had a megaman out of small white squares) showed.

The progess so far is nothing game-play wise, rather a perfection of the menus and intro. Oh and New Game/Continue Game are implemented so thats out of the way.

Id appreciate a GFX artist tonight so I can code for another 3 hours or so, but alas, im at a roadblock til' then.

Flames and rants are welcome, but Ive made worse mistakes before, and atleast I shall regain some dignity by admitting I cannot complete this, if that time shall come, compared to countless others who shall reamain nameless



Progress:

Decemeber 18th: Everything but gameplay done. Menu, intro, credits, saved game loading, new game, exiting ,etc. all done in a combined total of around 1 hour and a half. I want to start the gameplay but Im still spriteless...

It intros the credits, fades into this screen and moves the little icon your on back and forth and has sound, music in background, the works i guess..

Hey, its not my fault I dont have sprites so I make a nice menu

GFX, person here, hello??? I absolutely LOVE FMA, so you know that I'm fit for the job.

I am waiting VERY impatiently..............

I think SG57's added me to his ignore list....... anyone like to tell him that I'm up for the BTFTP GFX?

lol ok. I have a cool background made, but I just need a logo on it and a little 1/2 alpha bar at the bottom. You have MSN/AIM/GMAIL chat thing/IRC?

Ok... I need some testers. I dont think Windows Lua Player supports this type of transparency Im doing, so ineed to know whether this fades in and out. I also have finished my background (looks pretty sweet) and finsihed hte menu. Looks pretty professional, i mean better than most LUA menus. I found some random click and music to play in the background, so that adds to the effect.

So basically, Im pretty much ready to start the gameplay - but Im at a loss of sprites *sob* Ill just have to wait... This is going along suprisingly well sofar. I got through a very nice menu and intro with 0 problem in a combined time of around 30 minutes. A few miscalulations of my sine and cosine values, but i havent touched them in a year or two.

so ya - I need those sprites - Ive managed thus far by making my own background, still need a credits background, ill probably make one if i dont get sprites really soon.

I'm willing to test your thing!
I'm making a LUA game for the PSP too (Mega A**Hole Portable) and I just made an FMA skin for it to show it could look great.
I know lua player for windows does not behave the same way as the psp one regarding transparency, I'm testing my app on windows too. I also have problems on the PSP with transparency, but that may be because I'm using the player 0.16 (0.20 crashes always). What version are you using? If it's 0.16 what you cannot do is blitting an image with transparency in another image, except the special "screen" image, because every pixel that is not alpha 255 will be lost. so no buffering for that.

Ya I read about that, im using windows lua player and its not working. And ya id be glad for you to BETA. Im about to upload my current version now... Its everything BUT the gameplay. Meaning intro, menu, and all there sounds and transitions are pretty much done. however, I probably will convert the text i print out to a TTF for better looks.

Ive packaged my latest version in a 1.0 eboot as 1.5 is pretty obsolete now that SE-C is out... Anyways, I need you to test mine and tell meif the fading intro works or not. Oh and if the eboot works since i just through it together. Do you have MSN/AIm/etc.?

Lol, I am obsolete then I have fw 1.5 so you'll have to give me either a 1.5 eboot or the folder with your code so that I can put it in my luaplayer on the PSP. should I use luaplayer 0.20?
I'll PM you my msn address in a moment.

PS: don't be too much in a hurry for me to test as its 10:40 AM and I'm at work. taking my PSP out right now won't do it.

Ok. Well, to be honest, anyone can grab a BETA from a file on my site... I wont tell you where, but the file is on there.

As of now, im still trying to obtain sprites and sound effects, if anyone can help thatd be awesome. The sprites and sound effects from Iron and Flame to be more precise. The sooner i get them the faster i will get this out...

My guess is that those sprites are from Dual Sympathy. But still look ****ing sweet. Now all we need is that part where Ed makes a door and you've got gold.

Oh boy, I love FMA, by far the best anime to date. I hope to see his project succeed. I seriously hope it doesn't fall pray to the same things HaLUA and others did. ^_^

I hope it turns out well and fair. And I guess you have the sprites now, but if you don't, you can just use blocks as proxies. They aren't perfect, but they work better than nothing for testing.

True I now have sprites, but i have a ways to go still. I need to cut them up, as I hate offsets, and get a storyline going...

superbatxs - Tomorrow or whenever you want, ill send you my full source.

SoccerPMN - I havent seen you in forever... Ill have to consult you if I run into a problem

TUW - Yes, since Im PSPless and its too much of a hassle to use C and test alot via sending files to BETA testers...
