Plugin to load 3.02 POPS on 3.03 OE

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This plugin is to load 3.02 psx emulator in 3.03 OE.

Although a lot of games work better in 3.03 emulator than in 3.02, in some cases
it is the contrary, so you may want to load 3.02 psx emulator in certain cases.

Instructions:

- Copy seplugins to the root of your memory stick.
- Using some of the latest psardumpers, extract the 3.02 firmware with the option of the button X.
- Once done, copy the following files from /F0/kd to /seplugins/pops302: meaudio.prx, mesg_led.prx,
pops.prx and popsman.prx.

- Enter in recovery menu, and enable pops302ld.prx plugin if you want to load 3.02 emulator.
- Run the game. It will run with 3.02 psx emulator.
- Whenever you want to use again the 3.03 emulator, just disable the plugin from recovery menu.

Known problems:

* During tests i tried castlevania sotn compressed. During the game i noticed anormal high activity
in the memory stick (note: the fact that the prx's are in memory stick is not related to this issue,
since they are quickly loaded to ram).
It didn't happen with the game not compressed (and it doesn't happen in 3.03 compressed).
I don't know if this issue affects other games.
In such a case, it may be a problem of the mixing of modules, or maybe just a 3.02 problem.
If you experience that problem, you may want to use uncompressed games if it slowdowns the game.
This is for example for final fantasy 7's battle swirl
The psar dumper can be found in the latest devhook files for example @ qj.net

note: pops.txt is also used by cwcheat, merge the two files together to keep both of em working (2 lines of txt)

How to install this plugin: use pbp unpacker (google it) to extract the psar file from the 3.02 eboot, put it in the root of yer memstick.
run psar dumper, this'll create F0 folder with the files you need!

Ok, I got everything down and the Battle Swirls are working . The only reason why I, or anyone else, plays Final Fantasy 7, Battle Swirls. :P

Memory Stick is at high activity in Final Fantasy 7 Compressed at 9.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but some PS1 games had it where it would "stream" tracks from the CD while you played. That's why Dark_AleX noticed the unusual high activity on his memory stick.

If you have the retail version of the said Castlevania game or any game that streamed music or has a lot of FMV, you'll get the same effect. This was one of the main faults the PS1 had with the system. The constant streaming of tracks wore out the lens making it skip or cease after tons of prolonged useage. You can even pop in the game and then open the lid on the PS1 and see what happens - the music stops. Anyone else remember putting their favorite music CD when playing Ridge Racer or Wipeout?

I totally appreciate Dark_AleX's work - don't get me wrong. But I think the high activity on the memory stick is normal for a game like he mentioned. I'm all for for updates and fixes, but I think this was to be expected since it was in the nature of the game itself. The compression technique made it "struggle" for the tracks which it couldn't normally find I guess. But what do I know.

I think I'll stop talking out of my bum, hehe.

That's cd-audio tracks, they need a special popstation.exe to encode as the normal one doesn't insert the correct header. When not inserted, those games always crash..
The high activity is some bug with 3.02 and compression and has nothing to do with cd audio. The same thing happened in older psx2psp generated eboots as the ISO started at different places that popstation was used to, so the pops emulator was getting confused also. They worked, but blinked a lot. (Not to do with cd audio either). This was fixed later on with a new popstation.exe

the #1 reason for this is final fantasy 7, the battle swirl got broken in 3.03 and that bugs a lot of people :P

Hey I tried this and seem to be having the same reoccurring problem. I followed the steps exactly, and seem to be getting a corrupt plugin.

I used the 3.02 JP Update hosted at dl.qj.net
The latest PSPBrew to extract the data.psar onto the root
Used the psar extracter included in the devhook .52 download
And got a supposed good looking dump. Everything is there that I needed to drag over.

When I loaded recovery mode, it showed me this:

Here are a few other:
http://www.pspcube.com/other/302plugin/DSC00256.JPG
http://www.pspcube.com/other/302plugin/DSC00257.JPG

I can still enable it, but after doing so no ps1 games will play-especially FF7...I'm on 3.03 OE-B...anyone know what i'm doing wrong? I've already tried it with no other plugins enabled with no success...
