Exclamation [RELEASE] VSH Analog Revision B

VSH Analog Revision B

Changes:
- Analog stops working after using some VSH options (FIXED)
- Analog/D-pad messed up when using VSH options that actually use analog (FIXED)
- Added option to enable/disable the button swap in VSH
- Added short message displaying current status when enabled/disabled
- HOLD key will stop analog movement
- Added a power tick to keep PSP awake

This plugin allows use of the analog stick for movement in the VSH.
Analog will function as D-pad, and D-pad as analog.

To install:

Place in the SEPLUGINS folder on your memory stick
Add the path to vsh.txt
Enable the plugin through the recovery menu

To enable/disable the analog and D-pad swap, press the vol+ and vol- buttons at the same time. You will get a short message telling you if the plugin is enabled or disabled.

Known issues:

When launching items from the game menu on non 3.10 OE firmwares, the PSP will crash. Unable to fix as this is not an error on my part. Only 3.10 OE is fully supported.

Thanks:

MaTiAz - For the idea while we were chatting on IRC
TyRaNiD - The code for hooking functions is from psplink
The people who tested this on 3.03 OE for me.

I noticed that it quit working for me at times too. Very nice update, and great concept for development.

I know a number of people with non functioning D-pad's that this benefited more than you could ever understand.

It's great that anytime there is a niche need in the PSP community, we have great developers that step up and get done what is needed.

A much more improved release then the last one (dur!). I didn't like using the last one cuze I was afraid the analog would fast-forward or rewind my music, even though it was on hold.

excellent 2nd release!

are you still going to develope a full xmb re-button configuration mode?
i'd like left shoulder to be enter... or even better, have the /\OX[] buttons on the d-pad, with the analog stick. one handed XMB maddness.

I'd prefer the option to be able to use both the D pad and and Analog at the same time. I don't like the idea of one or the other being disabled.

The plugin doesn't disable anything, it swaps them.

With plugin enabled: D-pad controls are swapped with analog (ie. analog movement causes regular D-pad movement, D-pad movement causes regular analog movement)

With plugin disabled: D-pad movement causes regular D-pad movement, analog causes regular analog movement.

Default good but...

This is a nice release. The only other thing i would like is to choose which is enabled. For example when pressing the vol + and - together it would enable the analog stick as the d-pad. Pressing it again would disable the analog stick and have just the d-pad. Pressing it one final time would enable both the analog stick and the d-pad at the same time.
Other than that this plugin is perfect.

Nope that doesnt happen. When its enabled the analog stick works as the d-pad and thats it the d-pad doesnt work. When its disabled the d-pad works again. I may have misunderstood your post. If i did im sorry.

You misunderstand, this plugin swap the functionality between the D-pad and analog, it doesn't just add analog movement.

The problem with the plugin being the way you suggested is that certain parts of the VSH (photo viewer, browser etc) make use of the analog and the D-pad at the same time, which would mess it up.

Is there a way to hex this PRX to get it to work when I press X, first press enables PRX, second press to disable PRX. I have this flashed to a icon on the XMB. Thanks

Altho I've found one seemingly weird bug with this plugin, when I tried to use it

It would load no problems, had no issues, and when I went to run homebrew, the boot screen for the homebrew would show, sit there, then my psp would turn off.

As soon as I disabled the plugin, homebrew worked again

Just as a tip, I have also been running X-Flash as well....(it may have no correlation to this issue tho)

if you can run X-Flash, you're not running a supported firmware.

as far as i know, this is only tested on 3.03oec and 3.10oea.

as art would say "Upgrade Today!!!"...

Only 3.10 OE is fully supported, if you're using a different version, you will get this crash.

It's a shame they can both work seemingly together (Analog and D-Pad) I think personally though for that reason I will stick to the good old D-Pad.

Great work and I hope everyone else continues to enjoy it

Full install instructions.

1. If you don't have one already, create a folder named 'SEPLUGINS' at the root of your memory stick.
2. If you don't have one already, create a text file named 'vsh.txt' within the 'SEPLUGINS' folder.
3. Add this line to the 'vsh.txt' file:
Code:
ms0:/SEPLUGINS/vshanalog.prx
4. Reboot your PSP holding the right trigger to go into recovery mode.
5. Go into the 'Plugins' option and enable the vshanalog.prx plugin.

Done.

I think this is a fairly useful plug-in with only a few issues that I've come across.

First the plug-in takes a couple of seconds to enable when I first turn on my PSP, and when it gets enabled there is a funky graphical distortions that appear on the top of my screen, it also does this when I exit homebrew or a game.
The upside is that it works great when coming back from suspend mode or when I use the internet browser. No issues there, or even when looking at photos, watching videos or listening to music.

Overall I find this to be a great plug-in with only a few issues, though there is room for improvement.

Maybe in a future release we could have the d-pad and the analog nub switched when playing games (some PSP games would work better that way) or inside homebrew (I would like iR Shell better if I could navigate with the thumbstick and have the commands that are mapped to it to be executable via the d-pad) or lastly have them switched when playing PS1 games, the control options are oh so limited.
