Default Wipeout Pure Custom Soundtrack guide

Here's a little something I've been working on recently - a custom soundtrack guide for Wipeout Pure.

This guide and associated tools will let you add your own custom music to Wipeout Pure. Each of the existing 19 tracks can be replaced by anything you want. WP is the reason I got my PSP, and this takes it to the next level!

Basically, the custom soundtrack is added by unpacking one of the WP data files, replacing the existing music with your own music, then rebuilding the data file again. The associated tools ‘wpdump’ and ‘repack’ do the unpacking and repacking.

Please post comments here - feedback is welcome.

Enjoy!

Did it show the files being extracted, or did the tool just finish straight away?
If it finished straight away, then the Data.wad file isn't in the same folder as the tool.

This is cool. However, I searched my memory stick and couldn't find any data.wad file.

I know I'm probably a noob, but this is really confusing me.

i'm assuming you need to transfer the game to the memory stick if you want to use custom music?

Hi, Goatsucker.

I tried your tool, but in another way of usage: localization.

I translated one of the language packs to Chinese, and found not all the characters are showing.

I think it must be related with the font files.

I tried looking for *.fnt files but didn't found them in DATA.WAD/FE.WAD/FEDATA.WAD.

Could you give me any clues on this? I really want to make a Chinese version! :wall:

on a side note, got the game to my MS even though i have it on UMD, but the guide works very well, got my beats in the game, u should still try to get custom sounds for the UMD owners, thatd be sick,

thanks,

bigs

Thanks for all the feedback - glad some of you got this working.
For the others:

- Yes, you need to already have Wipeout Pure running from the Memory Stick.
- No, I can't help you with that, or tell you where to get the files
- No, this doesn't dump anything from the UMD. But I insist that you have already purchased Wipeout Pure before using this tool.
- Yes, you need at least a 512Mb Memory Stick. Don't be such a ****ing cheapskate.
- Yes, it is theoretically possible to patch just the music from Memory Stick, in the same way the extra ships are added in the Gammas packs, but these files need to be encrypted. Patching the original game files is MUCH easier.
- If you want a drag-and-drop tool, go ahead and write it yourself.
- Jeff, Localization is a neat idea I hadn't thought of. I don't know anything about the font files, though.

Hope this doesn't sound too harsh, but I wrote this tool for my own version of WP, and it works just great for me. Complaining that it doesn't work without reading the guide won't get much of a response, I'm afraid. I'm not your mummy.

ok first of all, only one (1) person has got this working besides u, and that person is btownstunr and i doubt he's telling the truth...

maybe u can help me

i downloaded the codec from http://pdc.me.uk/psp/atrac3.zip
i used Nero Wave Editor and saved it as a PCM 44100 kHz, 16bit, Stereo
then i opened the file in window's sound recorder, change the format to Atrac3, 132kbps, selected "all files" instead of wav and saved it as 243.0942fe8b.at3 and then i did it over with all the other files

it didnt work.

i even tried using Goldwave but when i save it, it will automatically put in the .wav extension and my xp computer cant edit that

any thoughts?

paranoiaboi07: Go to Tools / Folder Options and select the View tab and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types. What your doing is renaming it to 243.0942fe8b.at3.wav instead of just 243.0942fe8b.at3.

Hope that helps.

i may use this to reduce the size of wipeout pure, since you cud just put 15 2 sec dummy files and 4 tracks. Although i have no space on my memory stick at the mo to try this, i will give it a go at some point.

Hi, GoatSucker.

I modified the French pack (an .XML file, I don't remember the name), replaced the content with the Japanese pack (cuz Japanese is not showing in then list on the startup).

I think the coding is no problem cuz they all use UTF-8. But some of the Chinese characters are missing in Japanese fonts.

The directory where the fonts are in is /FE/*.fnt. I looked into the WAD files and found no .fnt files extracted from them (DATA.WAD, FE.WAD, FEDATA.WAD. I rename the 2nd and the 3rd ones to "DATA.WAD" and the extraction worked just fine!)

Please look into the fnt files *ONLY IF* you have spare time. Thanks very much for the tool!!
