Okay to test it, go to start, my computer, C:/ Cygwin/Home/*yourname* and you should see a folder called PSPTOOLCHAIN, create a folder called projects in the same directory as PSPTOOLCHAIN and another folder called Hello World, then from there PLace your hello world app and try to compile, if you havent copied the Make.exe file, you will have to now, If it works, even with errors, you did it right!
If you cant even find these folders...It messed up!

and try reinstalling yes, Its fun to watch the program make itself..I fell asleep to it!
i installed the needed parts.
# autoconf2.1
# automake1.9
# flex
# gcc
# gcc-g++
# make
# patchutils
# subversion
# wget
followed the rest of hte instructions, with replacing in toolchain.sh
and still get this after trying to run it
"ERROR: Please make sure you have 'automake' installed."
automake 1.9 is installed, tried reinstalling it, no avail.
any help?
did you, by any mistake, remove a tick-mark over something that wasnt mentioned in the install...
i mean dependencies...
i dont think so.
should i just unistall everything and start from scratch

Okay, make sure you selected the correct version of automake, and make sure you dont have PSPSDK installed already
Ok, this should definitly be mentioned in the tutorial.
If you are running Windows XP x64, cygwin will break trying to compile anything because it will recognize the wrong CPU type (it sends the real 64bit type instead of the WOW64 32bit emulated CPU)
To fix this, download the latest development snapshot which can be found here:
http://cygwin.com/snapshots/
The file you want to download is the second one on the lists
"cygwin1-*.dll.bz2 stripped and compressed cygwin1.dll"
Extract the dll, rename it to cygwin1.dll and replace the file in C:\cygwin\bin with that dll file
Then cygwin should work correctly on Windows XP x64
I have Windows XP x64 and it has never broken on me once, I dont know though, if your having problems i suggest that solution!
Just what i needed. Plan is to make Connect4, have used it to learn other languages so in commemoration this shall be my project. (With of course acpu player to keep yee entertained)... First venture into psp programming lets hope it don't fall through.

Oh Im sorry, I Must have my configuration set up differently or somthing is fixed on my CPU, HAHA I dont know, but it works every time!
i had the same problem on an x64...
basically while trying to compile the toolchain, it would download one file (either binutils,gcc.etc..) and then stop doing nothing...
i had to manually exit cygwin and start the toolchain all over again...
after three tries, it downloaded everything and gave me an error while compiling..
and when i tried it on windows xp mce, it worked flawlessly

I just registered to these forums, and I've been coding a little with LUA, but now I'd like to learn to "really" code :) So, I just wanted to know how easy it is to code a program which just displays a 480x272 .png -picture, and you could close the program with, lets say, X -button. I hope that somebody can give me the full source code, because thats how I learn at my best. Then I can start coding my own little proggies :)
This might help you a little bit; a lot is in the Makefile, and the method of doing it is probably outdated (I haven't coded for the PSP in months)
(I whipped this up to show someone else how to display images a while back)

des4ij, I don't really have much time anymore to write tutorials, and I probably wouldn't be the best for the job since I don't know much about graphics programming. I just pretty much stumble along.
But if you want to look at some example code for writing to text files, there's some in my Snakman game. I wrote to a text file to save high scores.

I'm trying to make a remote controller for my JVC-television, and I have the raw IrDA power on/off -code, which is: "üðôôôàðððôôàððôäôôäôððôô üôôðàüôàððð". Now, I'd like to know how should I convert this to hex so i could simply just replace that code to the Sony TV remote control program, and use it with my TV? Or how should I edit that Sony remote -program, so I could send that raw IrDA-code? Or where could I find some IrDA-codes for the usual TV-remotes?
well i have no c or c++ or any code skills for that fact under my belt but this has been one of my well not dreams but ya know a very very wanted skill since i got into pc.but YELDARB u r a don.much respect for the time and effort you have put into the three psp tutorials they are far by the best tutorials ive ever read,i encourage anyone wanting to start and have no idea like me to read these they are very easy to follow.now to develop homebrew or try :)
oh yeah 1 thing you say psp toolchain to install in cygwin will take some time,well for the record id like to agree.
with a 1.9ghz amd cpu 1.2gb ram it took me 32hours to install the toolchain unreal but pays off in the end
It is your connection to the Internet that made it take that long. On my machine with a 1.47 GHz Athlon XP 1700+ and 512 MB of RAM, it took less than two hours - I have a 2 Mbit download speed.Zitat:

UPDATE
I have made updates to the first tutorial to make it compatible with the newest toolchain. If you have previously installed the toolchain and wish to upgrade, you will need to fully uninstall CYGWIN. Be sure to back up your projects first.
I have also completed Lesson 04 - Simple Image Processing. It walks you through loading and displaying images and teaches you how to install libraries from SVN.

Hmm, I always get a image load error with that fourth lesson code, but maybe it's because of my toolchain. How do i fully uninstall cygwin? Just remove the C:\cygwin -folder or what?
Did you make sure to move the PNG image file onto your PSP along with the EBOOT? I guess I made that kind of ambiguous; I'm going to update the tutorial now to include that detail.

Were you able to complete lessons 2 and 3? And is your compiler still able to compile them?
I just tried to compile Lesson 2 and it failed. I went back through Lesson 1, and I realised that I had missed the part where I was meant to edit Cygwin.bat :confused: I changed it, and now it works perfectly.

hold on im having some trouble i just started trying this out and am on the 1st tut but how do u install the psptoolchain im running the toolchain.sh like it said but nothing happens common help me out here.
Try renaming the zipped file to "psptoolchain.tar.gz" then extracting - some zipping programs, especially WinRar, don't extract the folders properly otherwise, and just dump a single file instead.
