PSP with firmware 2.71
Whats up guys....im a noob to the whole psp...i just bought a brand new one from walmart and under system info is says it has the 2.71 firmware....My question is it possible to run a devhook version with the oem firmware 2.71....I have tried installing the devhook version 0.51 and when i go to launch the installer it says corrupted data....if someone can help me out i greatly appreciated it....
I suggest you downgrade your firmware to 1.5. You can learn how by going here.
When you do that, you can run devhook to emulate ANY firmware except 3.30 and still run homebrew. Also, you can install Dark Alex's Custom Firmware to get all the benefits of recent firmware plus the added benefit of being able to run homebrew.
EDIT: To answer your question though, you can run devhook on 2.71, but you have to enable homebrew first. You can't just throw devhook on there and expect it to work. In the downgrading process, you need to enable homebrew anyway. I think it's just easier to downgrade rather than enabling homebrew everytime you turn on the PSP.
i reading about downgrading the firmware and i came across something that said if you have T082 board that you can not downgrade to 1.5 and that you can possibly brick your psp downgrading the firmware. is that true
As far as I know, they released a separate downgrader for a 2.71 TA-082 motherboard. It patches it so it can run the downgrader. However, if you have access to an unpatched copy of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, I would upgrade to 3.03 and downgrade from there because it automatically detects if your motherboard needs to be patched and will run the patcher before it lets you continue.
Or, you can check out the "2.71 PSP (TA-82 or TA-86)" that is right above the normal 2.71 section and get all the files there. If you follow the instructions, you will be able to downgrade without a problem.
Nice that you read... alot of people run into trouble or brick their psp by downgrading right away.
Check if you have a TA-082 first like the guide says. Just open up the UMD Lid, and look closely at the upper right edge of the board. If it has a marking "IC1003" or something, then it's a TA-082.
Make sure you have at least 75% charged battery and adapter plugged in at all times. I had 100% battery charged just in case and plugged in power charger. Make sure you have don't have a fake mem stick or else it may brick.
I'm pretty sure you have a TA-082 since you just bought your psp now from walmart. You can downgrade a TA-082 using the Ultimate Downgrade Guide by Brad. It worked flawlessly on my TA-082 2.60... I had to update mine to 2.71. I now have a 1.50 PSP with DevHook 0.52
You don't need GTA Liberty City Stories exploit. Just run HEN D (Homebrew Enabler D).
Follow the instructions carefully and you should be fine. There is also HEN D that comes with the Downgrader Package. There is also a link on that guide to get the 1.5 Eboot. After you run HEN D successfully, just run the 1.5 Enabler... once you get an OK to downgrade to 1.5 Then run the Downgrader. If all goes well you should be fine.
Take your PSP to a console modding store it should cost you about 50$ to get it
Or you can do it yourself for free fzero.
