Here's hoping I put this in the right board...
Alright, I'm gonna start things off by saying Hi everyone. I'm a total noob to the homebrew scene, and just really got into it this week after Noobz.eu made their annoucement regarding Lumines and the planned hack. Now, that announcement got me interested in what all homebrew offered, so I started doing some research and here I am, having successfully completed a upgrade from 2.82 -> 3.03 -> 1.5 using the suggested GTA:LCS method.
NOW. Here's where the question comes in.
I love some of the abilities the homebrew games offer, such as emulated NES, SNES, and N64 games, even though the latter (I'm using Daeldalus) doesn't give me quite all that I would like (so far, haven't tried out much of it). I would love to try out more that the homebrew community can offer, having heard that Quake and Quake II are available.
However, I, having upgraded from 2.82 to 3.03 in order to apply the GTA:LCS + DownGrader + 1.5 patches, have fallen in love with the style of 3.03. It has everything that 1.5 doesn't have, such as no auto-load for UMD disks, a browser, and most importantly of all, my UMD games will play on it (I love the few games I own).
The question is this: What is the best method you folks can suggest to a complete n00b to get the benifits of 3.03 combined with the homebrew possibilities of 1.5?
I had a look at this guide: http://forums.qj.net/showthread.php?t=76115
to try to get a better idea of what all some of the custom firmwares offered, such as 3.40-OE, but it became gibberish to me at a point. Like I said, n00b to the community.
In a nutshell, I want to be able to do the exact same things a standard 3.03 firmware can do, but with homebrew/emulation capabilities added on.
I've read somewhere on the forums that 1.5 can emulate later firmwares, such as 3.02, I believe. Would this be a reccommended path for me to take, or should I go with 3.40-OE? Would either method have what I want? Is there a third method I'm not aware of?
Thanks for your help!
