[OFFICIAL] 3.40 OE-A and 3.03 OE-C Installation Guide, FAQ, and Support Thread

I have been using DevHook 0.4x all this while but decided it's time to upgrade to 3.40OE.

However, i found out that even my set says it is FW2.0 but in the set I could find those fw2.0 features, like Themes setting, Korean language...etc.

So, is it safe to proceed to install 3.40OE? Based on the requirements, only FW1.5 but not FW2.0 can be upgraded. As my set's FW shows 2.0 but i believe it is not. (The set is already showing FW 2.0 when newly open from the box!)

Or must I find a way to set it to FW1.5 before proceed???

You need to get back down to 1.50 first. 2.00 won't run the installer, so go to the Ultimate Downgrader Guide and follow the instructions for a 2.00 PSP (Second from last)
Then use the instructions from here to update to your desired OE firmware (I recommend 3.40 OE-A as it's newer and the flasher has less chance of bricking due to extra safety measures)

Thanks for the reply. I tried that before i realised my set is actually a FW 1.5 (could be FW 1.51 but definitely below FW2.0 coz no FW2.0 new features as mentioned ). The tiff and gif file formats are not supported coz i could NOT see any picture files using my PSP but checking from my PC there were 2 files, one tiff and one gif.

So, if i run the installer, and it runs it should be safe, right? Coz if it is really FW2.0 the installer won't run, and if it is FW1.5, it runs..

Just worry if something funny might brick my set. thanks.

So your PSP is at firmware 1.50? If so, go ahead and run the updater!

If you're at 1.51, then i guess you gotta update to 2.00 then downgrade to 1.50 using those instructions before (Either way, that'll make sure your PSP is firmware 1.50 when you do it - so if you're not sure, try running the update maker first. If it runs, you're on your way. If not, you're probably 1.51, in which case update to 2.00)

Did you check the System Settings -> System Information option? That tells you your firmware version.

I suspect the shop i bought from had changed the firmware number for some reason. I tried also to check from my PSP box code but also found out the set's serial number is different from the box. :-(..

Without knowing the exact FW my set is (FW 1.5 or FW 1.51), i am not sure if i should upgrade my set...

just wonder, IF my set is FW1.51, can the installer run?

You should get the 2.00 update and run it.
If it doesn't, you're probably already at 2.00 in which case you can use the downgrader and then go to 3.40 OE-A.

You should upgrade your current psp to 2.0, then you should downgrade it to 1.50 and then you should install 3.40-OE.

I am stuck.

I cannot upgrade to FW 2.00 coz it says the system already at the same version.

I cannot ugrade to 3.40OE-A coz my system does not have the FW2.00 features on supporting the gif and tiff format...

Yes. If you have an unpatched GTA UMD then go for the 3.03 downgrader, if not, i'd go for the 2.7 (Or is it 2.8?) one.

Phrew! I did just that...did fw upgrade to 2.71 then downgrade to 1.50... and now i have a FW 1.50 system with correct system information! Thanks.


Now... i will need to upgrade to 3.40OE-A... keeping my finger crossed..

Hi there, i just downgraded my 2.71 TA-82 PSP to firmware 1.5 and I just finished transferring all the data for the firmware 3.40 OE-A to my MS. However, I just came upon something that is giving me a bit of a scare, and that is that I have reached this point in the guide:

"5. Now exit to the the PSP and enter the Game menu and start the OE UpdateMaker."

So, I go to the game menu and see four icons, the first icon is broken and it says "Corrupt Data", the second icon says "3.40 OE-A Firmware Install", the third icon says "3.40 OE A Update Maker" and the fourth and last icon is broken and says, "Corrupt Data".

Now, I understand that I have to run the Update Maker, and it seems that icon is fine, however the other 2 broken icons have me worried. Is this normal? Should I just run the Update Maker and not worry?

It's perfectly normal. When on 1.5 a sort of workaround called Kxploit had to be used to get homebrew to run. This results in each homebrew having a corresponding corrupted icon with it.

I've followed the instructions for getting 1.50 to 3.40oea etc but problem I have is that games are not working and in the recovery menu, I cannot access the Configuration section at all and therefore cannot use this?

Any ideas please?????

Just some basic flash1 corruption

Have your USB cable connected for this fix. Boot back into recovery mode and scroll down and select "advanced" enable flash1 access then delete all the files and folders.

And if you can't delete all the files on flash1 then just format flash1

Remember flash1 is safe to delete.

hey guys. I just installed 3.40 oe-a i was fiddling around with themes and copied a new theme onto my 3.40 oe-a. However it was working fine until i flashed common_gui.prx, vsh.prx and pspbtcnf.txt files on then the psp semi-bricked. I already had 3.03OE-C on it until i upgraded and now I'm stuck as i forgot to backup the files before I overwrote them. Anyone got any ideas or point me to where I might find some originals of those files? Thanks xelaseer

I'm guessing by your eagerness to get a copy of the files that you can indeed reach recovery?

If so then you might want to try the 1.50 recovery package to get to 1.50 then reinstall OE completely. I don't think it's legal to share those files with you.

Simple, make a firmware dump, and search through the files, take all of the ones that begin with LFTV, then flash them back to your PSP.

You'll need to free up space though, use this app to do it. When it starts, relink both dummy files.

Firstly, I dont know how to dump. Secondly, how to flash them back to my PSP.

1. Read this. Just pretend you aren't in recovery.

2. Go to recovery, advanced, then activate USB flash0, and drop the files where they are supposed to go.

The files you just backed up... Mainly the LFTV files ...

Get a dump of the official version of your firmware (preferably not decrypted). Locate all the files in VSH/module of the dump that begin with 'lftv' and copy them to flash0:/VSH/nodule. Do the same for VSH/Resource and copy them to flash0:/vsh/resource.

That's what I would do... you might want to change that walk-through a little, I've never tried to add it back, so I've no idea if it will work.

I just installed the 3.04 OE-A (first time I've done something like this) and when I try to enter recovery mode the screen is completely black. If I wait a couple minutes the recovery screen shows up like it should normally, but when I push any button it'll turn black again & I'll have to wait again. How do I fix this?

Fix your keys if you're on a TA-082.

Use this app to do it.

I do have a TA-82, so I did the "fix keys" thing on that app (and tried it a second time to be sure, it said they didn't need fixing). I tried recovery mode again and yet it still did the same thing.

Edit: Nevermind, I did some searching & realized it's just that bug. Thanks for the help!

Do I have to reformat my memory card and reset the factory settings after I have installed 3.40OE-A?

If not, is it still a good idea to do so?
