The amount of misinformation about the patched/unpatched LCS versions is incredible. I bought one psp-sealed "2005" copy, with the "unpatched pictures" on the back of the case, to find a UMD inside that had #2 on it (patched). It had the 2.6 update on the UMD.

In short, there is no way to tell if it's patched or not unless you can look at, or load, the UMD, so stop making people waste their money by propagating a myth!

I don't think the rental store will mind what version they have, particularly if you go to a bigger chain. Anyway, I wasn't thinking sorry, yeah, no need for the switch just use the rented copy to downgrade.

Well just went to Gamestop and I simply asked them if they had a used copy of GTA:LCS. They told me yes, and I asked the guy can I "try" it out in my PSP? He said, "Why not?" So I popped in the UMD and checked the version. My face just glowed when I saw Version 2.0. I said, "Yeah, I'll take this one!" Now I didn't buy the box b/c I didn't think I really needed it, but I did take a look @ it. It had the 4 game scenes in the back, the guy on the bike, next to that the guy w/the AK, on the bottom left, the cop car, the bottom right, the boat. NONE were RED. As to the UMD, the number on the disc is:UPDL- 010050A1 1 Then continuing it has AO5. I suggest that you just test it out, like I did to be 100% sure.

I just went to Gamestop and bought GTA LCS. It has the 2.0 update so I guess it is unpatched. I tried to explain to the guy working on why I wanted to test it first and he is homebrew illiterate.

Meh, the truth is there is no way at all to tell. I got one, it was 2005 and it was patched... dunno wtf is going on.

unfortunately, after a certain point, rockstar started rereleasing the patched version with the exact same codes/pictures/dates/etc to make it impossible to tell if it's patched or not w/o actually running the UMD.

Back when the GTA downgrade was the only method available for downgrading 2.5's, I consulted a friend who was seeking an unpatched copy. I used all the information that was logged here. Everything matched up. Then I took my unpatched copy and compared EVERYTHING side by side w/ his copy. They were identical, it seemed safe to open thinking it was unpatched but low and behold it was unfortunately patched.

Luckily he went to blockbuster and managed to swap his umd for an unpatched copy they had.

so i copy everything to the memory stick where it's supposed to go. and i load the game and it goes to where i play the game. i am assuming this is too far... i just bought the lcs version, used. it has the 2.00 update on the game. everything looks right. am i doing something wrong?

well... i purchased a used game from my local ebgames this past weekend and when i tried it... it had the upgrade to 2.0 version on it... does this mean that i have the patched or unpatched version? also i have the ULUS 10041 on the box but without that 18+ on the disk or the case.

This is not always true. I have the pictures and the copyright date on mine says 2005 but I know it is patched because it has the 2.60 update on it.

Bought a new GTA from Gamestop today taking chances (no used GTA withen like 40 mins driving time of me) everything matched expect the ULUS mine is ULUS10041GH so looks like we have to get the ULUS10041 to be safe but im just going to go rent a copy and if its the right one swap the UMD.

Yeah I bought GTA 2 day and it had everything that the unpatched version had except the ULUS. Figures I didn't check that. Crafty sony and your swapping of the cases. He's right you have to find a GTA:LCS with the update icon 2.0 or it wont work, try blockbuster or some rental stores to see if they have one

Is there any game rental places near you? Try going to places that allow renting or to places that allows you to return the used game within a week or so. That way you can keep trying your luck like that.
