I just got a PSP, and first thing I did was connect to my wireless router and look for updates and such. I found there was a version 2.0 with a new web browser, so I went for it. Then I went looking for stuff to do with my PSP, and discovered that most stuff needs v1.5< of the firmware
Is there a way to go back to v1.5? |

Depends where you bought it. If you bought it at Best Buy or something and got the replacement plan thing, you could always return it and hope to get a 1.5 machine. Unfortunately, you're either hosed or you have to pray that someone smart out there cracks 2.0...

You guys dont know much about computers... do you? you really give up easily
(just joking, dont drop a brick)Lesson: nothing in software is absolute. Appearantly someone has already decrypted the v2.0 firmware, which means that v2.0 'homebrew' stuff is on the horizon. http://www.psphacks.net/content/view/342/2/ |

He probably had 1.51, so he never would have had homebrew in the first place.

theres still stuff to do on your psp without 1.5 you can go online (as long as the site doesnt use flash or java) as long as your in your house with your computer and your wireless router...... (or if you lucky enough to find a public hot spot which is rare around where i live) you can watch movies that are of really good quality and dont take up alot of space (i think you have to dl these from a certain site thats not yet available in the US , i think)...... 1.5 isnt all that its cracked up to be, i mean you can only play all Amiga 500, Atari, Gameboy & Gameboy Color, MAME, Neo Geo, NES, ScummVM, Sega Genesis Megadrive, Sega Master System, Sega Game Gear, SNES, Turbo Grafx games ever made as well as all games, apps, and tools made by community dev teams only 2 things are the same between the 2 versions, on both versions you can change the background pic (1.5 had this feature far before 2.0 was even released) and the ability to play games that req FW updates (using wab's vers changer on 1.5) EDIT: i forgot to mention the ability to run windows 95 on 1.5, but i guess that goes under "apps made by community dev teams" EDIT 2: i know its not fair to 1.5 to mention even more features of 2.0 but, i forgot to metion web portals for 2.0, little javascript games can be entertaining for a few mins |

Well, I didnt even consider that you could do more with a PSP. As far as I knew, it was a gameboy made by Sony that could play video and music. How was I to know that 'homebrew' apps existed, and that those homebrew apps that i didnt know existed needs v1.5<?
Also, it was a v1.5 firmware when I got it. If I knew not to update the firmware, I would proably be playing alot of SNES games... I miss my SNES I OC nearly everything I can get my hands on... I will not return my PSP cause of a mistake I made, nor will I basq in my misfortune of not owning a crystal ball, I will keep looking around for solutions. V1.5< PSPs are a dying breed, I doubt all the people who buy v1.51> PSPs will take the advice of 'return it and get a v1.5', so someone will find a way to force v1.5 to overwrite v2.0 (like overwriting a new device driver with a old one).

Yeah, I was reading that somewhere. Those guys are already borderline on legal, so I would expect that they wouldnt knowingly tred on clearly illegal ground. If one group can do it, another group (like wab) will figure it out too.
I just think you guys should look at this thread and think. It went from 10 posts telling me that there is no hope, and to return my PSP, to it is only a matter of time before someone finds a way. If you cant help someone with a question, and all you can say is that there is no hope, dont post. If you have some info, or even rumors that might help, then post. So, anyone have any info that might be helpful? |

Reverting to the a previouis firmware version is only possible via an upgrade hack. The problem though is that the updates are encrypted and even if we did encrypt one that is useful, we still would be unable to re-sign it to update.
So basically: Yes, it is a matter of time, but this will not be as simple as hacking 1.5 or even hacking 2.0. This is a much harder task in my opinion

The thing is none of the upgrades do a full flash they just upgrade the firmware from 1.00, to whatever their # is. They all need a 1.00 firmware or greater on the psp to work. And if you could sign an upgrade to go back to 1.50 you would have hacked 2.0 anyways so you wouldn't need a downgrade. Their is very little chance and exploit will be found for 2.00 and i is found thare is no chance 2.1 will be cracked to an exploit and ppl are working on it,but not to the degree of 1.50 since everyone had a 1.50 back then.
