Okay, so I got one of the older PSPs on eBay a while ago. I was able to get most of the regular stuff going and whatnot, but updating was problematic because of the networking and such.
So after a while I come back to it and try to see if it works again. Well, the networking worked, but once I attempted to actually update it, it screwed up. It says my memory stick cannot be read, and no matter how many times I reset it, etc., it never stopped. So, in an attempt to rid myself of this, I pulled the battery, etc. I was able to get the PSP back on, and every once in a while I'd try again and have the same situation. I don't know what's going on; I've looked on the internet, but no one has a problem quite too similar to this...I'm honestly a newbie at this, so it's really confused. My PSP is currently at update 3.71, and can play Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions (I don't have any other games to test it with), but nothing works. I've tried updating it with Dissidia and by the computer, but nothing works. It's honestly extremely confusing, because my memory stick is working, the discs are input correctly, etc., etc., and it never fixes. I end up having to pull the battery because there's no other way to shut it down. Can anyone help me, tell me I killed it, something like that? Any information would be really helpful. Thanks. |

Format your memory stick VIA PSP, then try updating it manually. You know, download the 6.00 EBOOT, place it in a folder called "UPDATE", and copy it to ms-:/PSP/GAME. Then, launch it VIA XMB.
Btw, is your memorystick genuine?

@Elite: Yeah. I checked the memory stick info thing, and it says it's supported. That means it's genuine, right?
@Fetts: Umm. I'm pretty sure it's PSP-1001. (I checked behind the battery, that's what it said there.) It's the thick, black kind. |

@Elite: Yeah. I checked the memory stick info thing, and it says it's supported. That means it's genuine, right?
Edit: I'm gonna try that now, but the weird thing is that whenever I go into USB mode, it just calls it an F: drive. Is that weird, or do people just use the ms-: thing to entail that you mean whatever drive it shows the stick as? Edit2: I tried what you said, Elite, but when I went to update it (6.10 version -- you said 6.00...was that a typo thing or was I supposed to find a 6.00 one? xP), it said the following: "The Memory Stick(tm) could not be read. If you cancel, you may not be able to start the PSP(tm) system. Check that the Memory Stick(tm) is correctly inserted, and then press the x button. (80020321)" When I check if it's inserted correctly, same thing happens. You get the idea. I'm gonna look up what that error code is, specifically, see if that will help me. @Fetts: Umm. I'm pretty sure it's PSP-1001. I checked behind the battery (, that's what it said there. It's the thick, black kind. Last edited by Penguin27; 11-07-2009 at 07:47 AM.. |

If the memory stick cannot be read then it means maybe it's faulty or not inserted well.Make sure its not faulty
because if it is and you try to update from it and unfortunately it stops reading, you might have a bigger problem there... |

Well, that was my point. I've played other games, which have saved onto the memory stick...
I dunno. Once again, Tactics is the only game that I could test it against with the update and stuff, and I don't have access to that right now (lent it to a friend)...It had a game saved before I formatted it, but I dunno. I'm pretty sure I am inputting it correctly. |

Umm...I may have dropped it or something. I'm not really sure. It's been 1-2 months since I've done anything with it. I do know, however, that I didn't drop it in water.
And yeah, I actually tried playing the game (after these problems arose) and found that I could load up the save file and stuff. I dunno if that means anything, though. |
