You should put a region guide :
1000 = JP Region 2 1001 = US/Canada Region 1 1002 = 1003 = 1004 = 1005 = 1006 = 1007 = I think it only goes up to 1007 but i could be wrong. Also you need to add the 1.5 --> 1.00 downgrader.

well this is possibly an incredibly stupid question, but seeing as this is titled the ULTIMATE newbie guide...
how, exactly, do you tell which firmware your PSP currently has? I gather this is all obvious because nobody says, but unfortunately I don't actually own a PSP, and have only played with one for maybe 10 minutes (making me the ULTIMATE NEWBIE perhaps). However, I need to be able to spell this out for my technologically illiterate relatives in order to ensure they buy me a PSP with homebrewable firmware. |

If you are looking to know before buying: Determine PSP Firmware using box codes.
And to check out what's loaded, you browse to Settings --> System Settings --> System Information. |

thank you very much for a very brief guide for people who are new to psp.
And I am very happy for my son as his psp is version 1.0. I was trying to update his psp earlier but decide to do some homework as I do not believe big company when it come to upgrade as upgrade mostly to do with software rather then hardware problem. But one thing I would like to ask is that if the games require higher version to work, what about its homebrew? thank you again for all the information. |

For some reason, downloads where people have done corrupt icon hiding never work for me either. Most likely, your folders look something like "SNES__________" and "SNES~%" or something like that; try renaming them simply as SNES and SNES%.

okay.
On my pc..... I download Pacman. I get the pacman in a zipped folder. I right click and press "Extract all". once its unzipped, i drag it into the Game folder. now in the game folder is a Pacman folder. Inside the pacman folder there is Pacman and Pacman%. Inside each of those is an EBOOT.PBP file. On my psp.... i go to game menu, memory stick. and there is an icon with "corrupted Data" beside it. ps... This may be totally normal. but the EBOOT files on my pc cannot be opened. Windows doesnt know what program to use to run them. This may be normal i dont know, Im not really smart with comp's. thanks for your help |

I feel sooooo stupid posting this, but I am having major troubles figuring out how to get this to work:
Ok, so I downloaded some MP4 videos from google, but no matter where I put them, they don't show up on my psp? (it came with firmware 2.5) :sad:

slaer, in the guide you'll find a section:
" Supported formats: MPEG4 (all firmware), AVC (requires 2.0+) To convert videos to MPEG4 format, I would suggest downloading: PSP Movie Creator and then download PSP Video9 to encode/format for AVC/MPEG4. Install MP4 videos in the: MP_ROOT folder (F:/MP_ROOT) AVC videos go in the 100ANV01 folder, in the format MAQxxxxx.MP4 i.e MAQ10018.mp4 MPEG4 go into the 100MNV01 folder in the normal way.". Basically, the PSP requires the files to be modified prior to use. The linked tools will setup everything for you. |

help - i'm stuck ! I've got a new 1.5 and i'm trying to download the emulator and fastloader software but in the meantime my 10 year old wants to play a video (legit). I keep getting an error message telling me i must upgrade the system software to 1.52. Why do I need to upgrade to 1.52? will upgrading stop me from playing homebrew? - any ideas?

You won't be able to play any type of homebrew on 1.52, so I would either staying at 1.50.
What type of video are you trying to play? |
