Well is it's something that you need to watch, I would say upgrade to 2.00 firmware. By doing so, you will still be able to play emulators without the need of purchasing a copy a Grand Theft Auto, and it will allow you to watch the video. Homebrew, like emulators will be launched by using this loader:

http://dl.qj.net/2.0-Firmware-Eboot-.../517/catid/114

I'm assuming that you don't want a 10 year old playing GTA, and if that's true, 2.00 will be your best bet.

You can find the 2.00 firmware by following this link:

http://dl.qj.net/PSP-Firmware-2.00-F.../280/catid/163

I would also recommend reading a lot of the homebrew guides and FAQS that are stickied here before making your decision to weigh out the pros and cons of the choice you need to make.

It was updated 2 days ago; I know because I updated it. If I missed something point it out to me.

there is one part of this that is miss leading,

the link to the 1.5 firmware is not an active download no more, this should be edited so people are aware of the situation

as when you click on the download button, it takes you to a error page, stating the page has been removed

Default Newby wanting to buy PSP

I have been looking through a lot of these threads and it's mind boggling. If I were to jump in right now and buy a new PSP at Best buy or somewhere, what is likely to be the firmware and what are the hacks available to me, Can I put movies on memory card, can I copy UMD games that I own, etc.

You don't have to teach me right now, just let me know what is available for me to do right now if I jump in and buy a new unit.

BTW if I am in the wrong place please put me in my right place.
Thanks

Little updates to add

Change

At the current time it is only possible to downgrade 2.0, 2.50, and 2.60 to 1.5. 2.0 using a different method then 2.50/2.60. Many will continue to try on future firmware revisions.

to

At the current time it is only possible to downgrade 2.0, 2.01, 2.50, 2.60, 2.71 and 2.8 to 1.5.

And for downgrade guide links point to this thread for 2.00 - 2.71
http://forums.qj.net/f-psp-hacks-9/t...ml#post1332936

You can also point 2.8 there or point 2.8 to this one

Hi Frozen

In need of your guidance. I am a new user of PSP and I am totally lost in all these technicalities. Manage to download some games and hopefully it could be transferred to MS to begin the experience but .... When I unarchived the d/led files, did not find any with the *.cso extension but with a psp_game folder & a umd_data.bin file. How should i proceed?

Thanks:

I'm sorry but we can't help you with those kind of games. They are illegal to distribute and thus we do not provide proper support with them.

A noob question, I'm using 3.80 M33 custom firmware, I want to update to 3.90, the guide said I had to update to 3.71 first, how can I do that? Or is there anyway to update straight to 3.90?

Default Help with Viewing G4TV Video Podcasts

Hi Frozen! Please help me solve this problem I'm having with viewing G4TV video podcasts on my PSP. I'm able to successfully subscribe to them in the RSS Channel on my PSP. I'm able to download them onto my Memory Stick Pro Duo but then when I try to view them under the Video XMB I see a broken file icon and it says file type not supported. This is troubling because the G4TV website states that there video podcasts are in mp4 format.
Here is a link: http://g4tv.com/g4originals/podcasts..._Originals.xml

Please tell me why I cannot view these podcasts on my PSP?

I'm sorry but I don't believe the PSP will support G4TV's podcasts. While they are in MP4 format they aren't readable on the PSP for who knows why. Someone had the same problem and had to convert them, so definitely not a fix I would suggest since it sort of defeats the purpose of the RSS but is the only way I can find to watch them: http://boardsus.playstation.com/play...read.id=296864
