Thank You for your Time. This is some valuable information for the unwary & newbie on buying PSP on ebay. Although I am a very experienced PSP user & careful ebay user, I unfortunately became a victim recently despite precautions.
To protect my fellow ebay friends in the future, I have therefore create some pointers to help you!! If you are not aware of these facts, the chance of you being taken for a ride in your next PSP purchase is significantly increased!!! Please do spend time to read it as it could save you money or stress.
1. Beware of firmware version that said to be untampered.
This is a useful site into teaching you what to look out for. (Got Caught Out Myself)
Firmware Detection Information
Determining PSP firmware using box codes (Dec 23, 2007)
2. PSP Model Number provides information on UMD Movies Region Code
. Beware of claims saying playing all movies. It may not mean all region UMD movies but refer to movies from Memory Stick or Free Region UMD movies!!!! (Caught off guard Recently)
1000= Jap Version (region 2)
1001= US Version (region 1)
1003= UK Version (region 2)
1006= Asia Version (region 3)
DVD/UMD Countries Region
3. Always enquire about Dead/Lazy Pixels on screen.
Although Sony claims that few dead pixels are not regards as faults. However, the few dead pixels in the middle of the screen is certainly spoiling gaming/movie experience.
4. Returns Policy Pitfall.
Some offer returns policy as a good gesture. But I realised that they may only refund the purchase price of PSP only but not the total amount you paid. (Unfortunately, I was caught off guard by this policy recently) The consequence could be huge if a substantial amount of money is charged on the "delivery and packaging" as they may not be refunded.
5. No Region Coding on UMD GAMES
All UMD Games has NO Region coding at present and sony has promised that it will stay that way.Therefore, all PSP can play any region UMD games.
6. Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo Issue
There are a lot of counterfeit sony memory stick pro duo on the market already suggested by reviews found on EBAY. The obvious way to tell the price is by the price. Other ways to tell are:
Memory Stick Identification
7. Reputable Seller Problems
It is common sense to buy from a reputable seller with lots of feedback. I strongly recommend you to buy from them. However, there may be a catch. Ask the seller question is better than taken their reputations for granted as others customers could well be in the dark but not knowing it!!!(Again I was caught off guard recently)
8. Small Prints
Usually unappealing feature(e.g. Dead Pixels, Extra Fees) are written in small prints. If you don't look for it, you will certainly miss it!!
Contact EBAY, Paypal & Trading Standard if you are in an unfortunate situation. Know your Rights!! Also, Photographs are important on providing evidence.
1. Always ask about PSP Model No., Dead Pixels.
2. Confirm UMD Movie Region Code & Firmware Version
3. Read Carefully on the seller's Advert. Don't take things for granted.
4. Read Small Prints!!
I hope this information would prove useful and good luck in finding a PSP BARGAIN. I am currently posting this post at ebay too. Either way, I am intending to keep this on ebay as long as possible so no one got caught off guard next time!!! Justice Prevails!
Please DO NOT ASK ME WHICH VENDOR INSPIRE ME TO WRITE THIS ARTICLE!!!
But I can't stop you noisy people from looking at my feedback or recent purchase. DAMN!!
All I can say is that they sent me a PSP in a badly damaged box. PSP is incompatible to UK UMD movies (differ to their ebay claim!)and firmware possibly tampered!(Differ to their ebay claim) Poor customer service(No email contact, No Tracking No.)& aftersale service (Much Delayed Email, Inflexible)and worse of all, they took 10% of my money and leave a negative feedback!! All I have is No PSP and Frustration!! Nevertheless, Trading Standard and EBAY has been informed! So this is a lesson for me and hopefully not a lesson for you!!
