Well, the bit in the red circle is missing and I'm left with four bare contact points on the PCB... The backlight did work when i pressed the little socket against the points it was soldered to before, but then I think I bent the ribbon cable a little too much and destroyed it. Anyway, there's a new backlight on its way.
To make things worse, I managed to destroy the small (half the size of a drive jumper) plug that got pulled off. Now I'm left with the bare contact points and the bare ribbon cable (when the new backlight gets here). I'm all for crap ideas, so long as they're tried and tested. Parcel tape worked ok until I put the lcd back in and until I over-bent the ribbon cable.
Any ideas?
