Can you get a hold of any screwdriver that is small or that will fit in the holes?

1. I never buy from eBay.
2. It doesn't look like it's #000.
3. ... There's no 3.

Incase your clasp to you're lcd breaks off, here is a mini tutorial on how to fix that up. (This personally happen to me with the skinny clasp because you need to lift up the psp when putting it back in.) so here's what you do.
get a piece of tape and a folded piece of paper about the size of half your nail. Then turn your psp on and keep putting the skinny cable in where it suppose to be and keep moving it around until you see the lcd light go on. Then you hold it there and place the paper at the tip of the cable where its connecting at and put tape over it. Now the folded paper will work as the as the clasp/cable. The clasp/cable pushed it down and held it in place. Now when you put the lcd screen on, since the paper is budging out a little, the lcd will press down on it and it will work!

Ok man, tell me how it goes. Remember, be patient. Its a bit hard to get working. I would really have to show you in person or take pictures of it. I hope you get it working though.

So, if i just wanted to remove dust from my screen, all i have to do is go up to step 2 right?

BTW, I've heard that once you open up you PSP, its more vunerable to dust, because you dont seal it all the way...?? Is this true?...

PS!!!! The PSP only comes with 1 year warrenty right? Mine is over 1 year old (1.5 Factory), so if i remove the sticker it doesnt matter right?

Thanks for all your help!

Sigh... I'm not blaming you, PSPFanatic... but when I used your method, a weird leaf-shaped mark appeared in the right side of my PSP. It's black, and it has cracks in it. It looks like a real leaf. I'll take a picture of it tomorrow, since I have to buy another camera (my old one got sent to the fixing shop hundreds of times, and eventually got broken).

1. Thats kind of true but not really. Once you open your psp it gets alot of dust so if you dont have any in the first place then don't open it up. Oh and if you want to remove it then you just stop at the point where you have removed your faceplate.

2. Yea just remove the sticker. Your warrenty is already up.

Default Removing the UMD drive

Hi i was wondering if the process for taking out the umd drive is a difficult one. I have been using my PSP as an mp3, video player since my drive stopped working 6 months ago. I refuse to pay the $150 that the authorized SONY repair shop wants for the job. I fixed my 360 myself when the heat sink conked out and it cost me a whole $20 to repair myself, while XBOX Canada wanted $175 just to look at it basically. I looked into the price of the UMD drive and I found some for around $50 U.S. So if I could do it myself it would be so worth it. Oh and also since i regrettably updated my firmware to 2.82 I can no longer play WMA files the DRM flavour. Is their any way possible to remove my firmware? I know of the trick to burn the WMA files back to disk then convert them back to MP3 but I was looking for a less painful solution,if their is one.

Uhm about the music I think thats your best bet. About the UMD drive, yes. It is very hard to remove. The screws are really tiny and hard to get out.

well, after 5 minutes undoing 6 screws, then another ten minutes getting the last one undone, 5 minutes of having a look inside the psp then five minutes trying to work out how to get the faceplate back on then realising i had done something wrong cause the d-pad didn't work, then 10 minutes of slowly losing hope, then finally realising the electrical bits should go face down instead of up, my psp is finally closed up again and the dpad is working

the only reason i opened it up was because the down button seemed to not be working as well as it should, so thanks (sort of) for this guide. i wouldn't have thought i had broken my psp without it, but then i would also have a semi broken down button

Its common sense man. Just make sure you put the two silver screws in the two holes toward the lcd screen. If you put the longer screws you will damage your lcd screen.

Good guide. But one question. How do you undo the three clip things that hold the screen in?

I'm deciding if I should open up my PSP just to remove the dust and whatnot, btw...my Start, Select, and Note button doesn't feel right...like when I press on them, won't I feel a little click everytime I press them? But for me I don't feel a click, and I have to press a little harder. What's wrong?

Open and fix re-arrange the button bar, that could be the problem.

Nah, I never made the second part because the UMD door is kind of hard to remove and a lot of people would end up breaking it.

Is it safe if I just remove the faceplate, and buttons and putting them back just to remove the dusts and making the psp tighter?
