Alright, first, the system. It's a virgin 1.5 psp, i've used the default memory stick, and a 256 lexar one. I have never falshed anything to the bios, i ahve use hummakavula's thing a few times (putting it into sleep mode with the game running a few times), have dropped it a total of twice, both times from a height of 3 feet, no protective case on it at all, have used one umd a few times (used spiderman2 umd, seemed to work fine), and replaced the faceplate (old screen got scratched a bit) with a flatter black one. i'm using the default battery, and i almost always leave the psp plugged in constantly.
on, to the problem:
PSP powers on as normal. works fine for a while, plays all my games, etc. then, all of a sudden it will just choose a line on hte screen and start repeating it across the screen, and stops responding altogether. sounds stop, screen doesn't change regardless of what i press. i hold down (up) the power slider until it shuts off, and then turn it abck on, it does the sony start up animation, and ican play again for a little while.
usually the freeze and repeat seems to happen after about 10-15 minutes of playing (although sometimes earlier, sometimes alter) and USUALLY happens when i hit a button (usually it's when i tap a button a little harder than normal i guess i dunno.) it's happened with the circle button, the x button, the home button, it's happened when i open hte memory card slot to take the card out, when i squeeze the top of the psp together (closing the umd door, regardless of whether there is a umd inside or not). Also seems to happen 80% of the time i try putting the usb b plug into it (works fine-ish if i power it on with it in htere). having the power cord in while turning it on or using it seems to trigger it a bit more often too.
This did not start happening to me after i installed the new faceplate, but it did happen to me after i used the spiderman umd a few times (i think i popped it out on acccident a few times while playing a legal iso, but i don't think that would do it, would it?). i'm beggining to suspect this happened afte rhte second time i dropped it (the first time was like in april or amy, and it worked fine afterwards.).
I've been thinking about giving the overnight fix place a call (it was mentioned a few months ago on the pspupdates), but i'm relaly kind of strapped for cash atm. plus i'm going on a trip next weekend, consisiting of several long greyhound rides, so i may end up doing that. but if there's any way to fix it myself, please, tell me. (assume i can solder/get things soldered. i also have a relatively ample supply of electronics parts (meters, resistors, capacitors and the like)).
Thank you ahead of time.
