Ok so I sent my bricked PSP to a repair service in Canada. Here's what a representative said:
Hello! I've had a chance to look over your PSP, and have a free estimate ready for you.
We've tried some software tricks to de-brick the system, but have had no luck so far. However, main PCB replacement is still an option.
We can replace your main PCB with working replacements of these firmware's:
US firmware 1.50 - $105USD (parts and labour included, shipping extra)
JP firmware 2.0 - $85USD (parts and labour included, shipping extra)
JP firmware 2.5 - $75USD ((parts and labour included, shipping extra)
Your system would look and play the same. If you chose a Japanese firmware, the unit would function the same as a US unit, but would only play Japanese movie UMD's. Games are unaffected.
My question to you is if I get the 2.5 or 2.0 japanese firmware PCB will I be able to downgrade to U.S. 1.5? I'm kinda low on funds but I'm aiming for a 1.5 so I can install the Custom Firmware by Dark Alex so if I install a corrupt font or gameboot I can fix it. Any help would be great!
