    Default v2.0 JavaScript Homebrew Portal

There is a newer version available.
    http://www.pspupdates.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11193

Please realize that it may be buggy and some games/apps may not work. This is why there will be updates available in the future. If you find any bugs, please report them in this thread. Thanks!

As you all should know by now, firmware version 2.0 includes a web browser. This web browser will be capable of using JavaScript, just like the WipEout browser could. However, this browser actually has a built-in address bar, as well as a Favorites menu and a changeable homepage. Many of us will be giving up our 1.50 homebrew for the plethora of new features in firmware version 2.0. Of course, most of us will miss our homebrew, at least a little bit. As many of us remember, we played simple homebrew games, such as Tetris, in the WipEout browser. However, the WipEout browser needed to be connected to the internet to be connected to a DNS server which would spoof the URL. Since the v2.0 browser will not need to be connected to a DNS server, a page on the PSP itself can be set up as the homepage. This will allow that page to be accessed entirely offline, with no need for a router or hotspot.

Now all of this comes together. I have saved the JavaScript games we used to play in the WipEout browser in days of old. I have also obtained new JavaScript games and applications, and, when neccessary, modified their code to fit on the PSP's screen. I have made a portal which will be downloaded onto the PSP for easy access to these games and applications.

Although I will probably add more items before v2.0 is released, the current portal, as it stands, contains the following software:

    Games:
p4wn chess game - Play the classic strategy game of chess against your PSP!
Blackjack - Play Blackjack, a well-known card game, right here on your PSP.
Tetris - Play classic Tetris anywhere from your PSP.
Battleship - Play Battleship against your PSP.
Minesweeper - Play the classic Windows game, Minesweeper, on your PSP.
Pong - Play the arcade game that started it all, Pong. (NEW!)

    IM & Email:
WebAIM - Chat with your buddies on AOL Instant Messenger!
    *Requires an Internet connection.
**Optimized for better use on PSP.
MSN eMessenger - Communicate with friends, family, and colleagues on MSN Messenger!
    *Requires an Internet connection.
Mail2Web - Check your email from your PSP!
    *Requires an Internet connection.
**Optimized for better use on PSP.

    Applications
Calendar - Record all your important dates and take them with you on your PSP!
Memo Pad - Type and save notes and tasks on your PSP!
Address Book - Type your contacts and their information and save it onto your PSP.

Update Feature - The portal can be updated to a new version without even having to connect the PSP to a PC.
    *Requires an Internet connection.

Remeber, unless otherwise stated, all of these applications will be run offline.
The last program added will be in red.

If there are any other applications and games (sadly, I won't be able to do emulators) that you'd like to see in this portal, tell me now so that they'll be in the portal for its next release.

I have noticed that some people are confused as to what this portal thing is, so I have decided to write up an FAQ.

Q: Will I be able to use this portal anywhere, or will I have to connect to the internet to use it?
A: I will make the portal available for download. You will be able to put it on your memory stick so that you can access it without having to connect to the internet. http://www.vgspot.com/downloads/pspwebportal/index.html is only meant to function as a preview of sorts. You will NOT have to connect to the internet.

Q: Will I be able to use any other homebrew with this portal?
A: Not the same homebrew that you used before (emulators in particular), but I will make an effort to port some of the popular homebrew games.

And so ends my little FAQ. I might add a little more to it later.

    Willing to help?
If you're good with JavaScript, you might want to help me out a little. If you can find a JavaScript version of Bejeweled and get me the source code or if you can make a Bejeweled game from scratch, I will be happy to put it into my portal.

You might also want to check out our sister portal, http://mmspeace.topcities.com/.

    IMPORTANT NOTICE
I messed up in the README.txt. You can only have one slash after file: in the address, so you type file:/index.html. All further downloads will have the latest README.txt included.

Even if you don't know of it, are there any games or applications that you'd like to see on v2.0? Especially homebrew software that already exists that you'd like ported to v2.0. The only things (other than emulators, obviously... they can't be ported) that I don't know how to port are PSPKick and that file browser.

    Thanks! :)

Oh- and if you want to see it in action on your PC or PSP (via the WipEout browser), go to http://www.vgspot.com/downloads/pspwebportal/index.html. Of course, if one was to download this onto his or her PSP, the pages would load immediately, and the background would not repeat as it does in this demo. :)

Funny of you to mention javascript.internet.com - that's what most of the scripts I have in the portal right now use.

I can't be sure that the alarm clock will work- I don't think that the browser will support sound. If it does, though, then we're in luck. :)

Thus it doesn't work with the WipEout browser. However, I'm sure that full cookie support will be implemented into the v2.0 browser; has anyone heard otherwise?

Minesweeper and Solitaire... yes, yes... Comin' right up!

    Thanks, guys!

Okay, I've added Minesweeper. It's gonna be a little harder to get a decent Solitaire game, but it's only a matter of time before I have one ready. :)

Thanks much to anyone who supports this project. I'm probably going to end up upgrading to v2.0 even if a homebrew web browser comes out, just because of the potential success of this project.

If only I could make a way for people to easily install/uninstall software from this portal... It could be done pretty easily manually with an HTML editor, but I'm sure that most people don't feel like doing that. That's why I'm putting everything that I can into the portal. This way, people who are really concerned can just delete the stuff that they don't want.

But this project could really prosper if there was a way for people to easily write JavaScripts and upload them, ready to download.

I don't know too much JavaScript, so I'd really need someone to help me make a JavaScript app that would list files in a certain folder... :)

    Thanks, everyone!

Yeah, I've seen Java applet GBC emulators. Sadly, we won't be able to use those...

This sounds like a load of fun. I'm staying optimistic about a PBP launcher trought the web browser. I would really love to have the new 2.0 FW when it comes out but I'm scared to miss my emus too much. Keep up the cool work, if this escalades to something big, I might reconsider upgrading.

PS: makarman and wallaby, since you had the same idea, why not join up to make something even better? Two heads is always better than one.

Yeah. Java based. not javascript. javascript is all that works right now that we know of.

Are you planning on making your own web messenger or are you gonna keep using the one from e-messenger.
If you are gonna make one yourself or if someone is going to help make one, i'm willing to do the gfx of everything.
becaus the mobile version of emessenger is allright but it could be done better for the psp, I emailed the guy of emessenger with a conceptdesign for a webmessenger for the PSP, haven't had a reply yet, hope to get one though.

And maybe updating your current gfx wouldn't be such a bad idea My head hurts just watching the flashy green.

Well all of this stuff in my downloadable portal you can do on the beach. :)

I've made an FAQ and added it to there. :)

Thanks goes out, for, what is it now, the fifth time? :) to everyone who supports my project.

As you can see, I've added a Pong game.

I hope you all enjoy it!

    The Pong game?

Well, if it doesn't, I'll just have to strip it down more. :)

    The portal itself? Definately.

Let's put it this way- if it doesn't work, I'll make it work. :)

Okay, you can put it anywhere on your PSP (when I make it available for download... because right now it's truly pointless to put it up for download). You just go to it from the browser. I'll release more detailed instructions when I release it officially. You'll point your PSP's browser to, for example, ms0:/portal/, after downloading the portal and saving it in the folder /portal/ on your PSP.

    Huh?

I'm assuming that you're asking whether or not you'll need a router or a hotspot to use the browser to view online content. Of course you need a router or a hotspot! Where else would you be getting internet access?

But luckily, all the games and applications in this portal will be usable without a router or a hotspot. However, the IM & Email programs will require a hotspot.

Oh- and by the way- I've heard complaints about the color scheme. I'm going to start a poll as to what color it should be. :)
