Post [GUIDE]Add web bowser bookmarks w/o using the PSP *Pictures*

Walkthrough made by: Frank 'ZOLTRIX' Mazza

If your PSP is version 2.0 and above (including OE's and SE's) then this guide will apply to you.
Make sure you have at least 1 bookmark made by using the PSP.

Step 1=
connect your PSP to your computer via the USB* Connection icon under the Settings menu in the XMB.

*-USB must be a 5-Pin Mini-B USBconnector as seen above ---------------------^

Step 2=
Double click the PSP folder in the root of the memory stick

Step 3=
Double click the System folder in the PSP folder

Step 4=
Doube click the Browser folder in the System folder

Step 5=
Right click the file called 'bookmarks'. Select Copy, then right click in an open spot. Then press paste to creat a copy, just incase soemthing goes wrong. Right click the file called 'bookmarks' again. Once you see the pop up click on 'open with...' and select 'Notepad'

Step 6=
A document should come up with a bunch of gibberish (HTML coding)

Step 7=
This part might get confusing. Press CTRL+F and type in <DT><A HREF=. You will get something like this: (My first book mark was google, so this is what i saw)

Step 8=
Now that you know where the bookmark string starts (<DT><A HREF=) and ends (</A>)You can edit the bookmark to link to any website you want! All you have to do is highlight from <DT><A HREF= to </A>, then right click and select 'Copy'.

Step 9=
Set the curser to a spot BEFORE the </DL><p> string, and then right click and press 'Paste'

Step 10=
You should see something like this:

Step 11=
You can now proced to change the 'Website link' and 'Website name' to whatever website you want. To add another link, repeat steps 8 - 11. DONT FORGET TO PRESS SAVE!!

Step 12=
Start up the PSP browser via the XMB and go to the 'Bookmarks' icon (the Heart shaped one) Press X and select 'My bookmarks'. You should see all of your bookmarks here.

If not, start from step 5. But this time, use the backup of the file called 'bookmarks' that you made.

Enjoy your new bookmarks!

easier is the editing with a text-editing-tool, like gs notepad (free) or something..

btw: my bigger problem is how to edit and sort my RSS-Feeds.
Is there any tool out yet that organize the RSS Sector of the 3.X PSPs ?
I really would appreciate any help on that.

Yes, get an editor like Notepad2 (I think Wordpad is fine too) that supports different types of return characters, not just Windows' CR+LF. It's much easier then.

I made this guide so people can edit the HTML without downloading new programs. If have a downloaded program, you obviously know what your doing and don't need this guide.

1. Does anyone know how to delete the defaulted "PSP(TM)" link?
2. Is it possible to directly put links in "Bookmarks" menu instead of "My bookmark" ?

Their point was that Notepad SUCKS as a text editor. It totally removes all non-printable ASCII characters from the text and doesn't know anything about how to handle Unix-formatted files. All the ones they mentioned will break the file properly into separate lines, instead of one big line.

The fun bit that no-one has mentioned is that this bookmark notation seems to correspond to what a PC uses...
I extracted my bookmarks into an htm file from IE earlier and it looks exactly the same to my (untrained) eye.
So it should be possible to transfer your bookmarks straight from your PC to your PS. That's what I call a useful feature!

Now to test it...

Edit: well, I took a quick glance at the files and they are pretty much identical... Obviously the ones for PC have a folder structure while the PSP ones don't.
I was lazy and I thought "Why not give it a shot? Worst case: it doesn't work."
So I backed up bookmarks.html, deleted it and copied my PC bookmarks exported from IE over into the same folder, renamed the file from bookmark.htm to bookmarks.html to match the PSP naming... and lo and behold, it works! It disregarded the folder arrangement and all the favourites are now dumped into one big folder, "My Bookmarks". I don't have wifi here so I can only guess that they point to the right pages but I'm sure they do.

Anyway, good news for the lazy... just export your favourites from IE and upload them straight away, only change the name of the file.
You can export your PC favs for backup, add/delete in IE to make a PSP set, export that as well and use it on the PSP and then import back the originals. This way you don't end up w/ a 300 item jumbled list like I did... still beats having to type on a PSP
This also clears up the fact that the predefined "PSP" folder is saved elswhere, not in the bookmarks file (I still have it).
