so I was thinking about the upcoming US2.0 update and was wondering whether or not I should wait for that or just upgrade to the japanese 2.0. Like many I was wondering why Sony would bother to release 2 different firmware versions when one works perfectly fine on the other. and because of the delays, US2.0 will probably have some patches in it that fixes some security holes in the JP2.0, hence making it US2.1 or something
then when the european PSPs are released in september, I will have to assume that they will have their own firmware version...Europe 2.1? Who knows, but I dont think sony would ship them with the US or JP firmware
I was speculating on why sony are doing this, it could be because they want to keep PSPs region specific, or the theory I came up with was that this is sonys clever method of slowly wiping out homebrew! because if we have JP2.0, US2.1 and EU2.x then thats PSPs all over the world running 3 different firmware versions, s probably wouldnt bother hacking all 3 for homebrew given that theyre all very similar just with different levels of security patching. which would eventually mean that 2/3 of the psp population wouldnt be able to run homebrew if only one of the firmwares is hacked
with the original firmware, everyone would run homebrew, now, only about 1/2 can (1.51, 1.52, 2.0 cant run homebrew atm), so the trend shows that homebrew is on the decrease and its a likely assumption that it will decrease even more with the new PSPs and new firmware coming out
so could this be the hidden agenda behind Sonys firmware patching? what does everyone else think....
