Default PSP Modding

Hi people,

I'm new here and my head is spinning with the amount of informations, which to be honest I'm lost with.

I have a PSP1004 with a PSP-110 Li-ion Battery, firmware version 2.80.

A collegue mentioned about being able to store Games on your Memory Stick, and said a Battery Mod is required to do first so I went to youtube, seen the video and started opening the battery, then I found it was different, and hence the reason I ended up here.

I have probably posted in the wrong section, but I think that my query could go in a number of different sections, Pandora Battery, Homebrew etc. I think half the problem is I don't really know what I'm looking for and hence the confusion.

Could somebody please point me in the directions of an Idiots guide to all of this?

- I figure there's a number of ways to Mod PSP, Pandora Battery & Homebrew....are there others?
- Whats the difference between them all?
- Pandora Battery - Is mod reversable? And what would be the main reasons you would want to reverse it ? (I seen references to having a Spare Battery and something about CFW).
- Homebrew - I don't really understand this, are these like homemade games?

Any help would be appreciated.

- Whats the difference between them all?-Explained above

- Homebrew - I don't really understand this, are these like homemade games? - Exactly what it is

Hi There,

Thanks for the tips and the welcome.

tbh I don't know anyone with a modded PSP so hence the reason to find out about it.

You mentioned Youtube videos (I think half my problem is knowing what is the correct video and thing to do), is there different mods for different batteries? Is there any tutorials on here about it?
If I do mod the battery do I HAVE to get an unmodded one or what happens if I don't?
Is it possible to do a soft mod without a Modded PSP?

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm really lost

With your psp at v2.80 you could easily downgrade it to 1.50 via software Here's A Guide and then on v1.5 you can run most if not all homebrew, update to the latest custom firmware, make your batteries into pandora ones and back if you need to... anything really

Happy to help.
Well it is recommended to have two batteries before doing any type of mod to your battery. This is just if it messes up or anything. You mentioned you have a 110 Li-ion Battery, I'm guessing this isn't a Sony official. If not then it is recommended to get a official 1800mAh battery due to safety reasons.

Once you hard mod your battery, you may still use it as a normal battery as long as you remove the magic memory stick files.

There are only 2 type of hard modding. One for the PSP Slim and one for the PSP you have.

This video can help you make your very own Pandora's battery.

This video can help you make a magic memory stick.

This is update you to 3.90 m33. Once installed perfectly go to the network update and it will update you to the most current CFW which is 5.00 m33-6. (Make sure m33 update is on in recovery mode, to get there shut off PSP and hold down R when turning it on)

Best of luck. Any other questions please do ask.

EDIT: If you do decide to go down to 1.50 and stay there. To play those games you *ripped* yourself. You are going to want to download an...
Actually if you go to 1.50 PM me and I will explain. (Forum Policies)

from the youtube vids I've seen the Pandora battery involves breaking a chip leg, how would you plan on making it into a Pandora one and BACK?

Instead of opening the battery (and Hard-Modding it), use a psp homebrew program (to Soft-Mod it) such as Hellcat's Recovery Flasher or pspTool to convert the battery serial # to 0xffffffff (making it a pandora battery), it can then be normalized again with the same software by setting the serial back to some random number.

nick - I checked out that Pandora vid, but my circuitry is o the side rather than the top of the battery. IIRC the IC no. is the same.

That just went way over my head. Is that software expensive?

Homebrew is free software, those programs can be found at http://dl.qj.net

If he can get the 2.8 downgrade working he can run the homebrew on 1.5

Okay, its late at night and I am not thinking as I should.

GAFF-That is probably because of the different batteries. What virx said is your best bet, you can downgrade to 1.50. Download pspTool and turn your battery into a pandora and you can always revert back.

Just go to the guide I posted Here's the link again, if the 2.80 spoiler boxes don't open, try refreshing the page.

Once you have downgraded the firmware version from 2.80 to 1.50 I would actually recommend Hellcat's Recovery Flasher for updating your psp to custom firmware and/or making Pandora batteries

your antivirus probably deleted the loader.tif image which needs to be there with the hen.gif...
disable the antivirus and copy the file it should be fine

I downgraded my psp to 1.5 and updated to 2.8 to test and see if all this works, I pressed start on the memorystick under the photo icon and HEN worked right away with no freezes, the blue screen showed that hen was enabled and I was able to launch the UPDATE x.yz after the psp restarted..... I hope it is as easy for you...

If the psp freezes restart and try agin
I remember when the tif exploits first came out, many people also verified they did not work 100% of the time, but they do work, just keep trying it should go through eventually...

I've tried a few times now, if I hit slideshow at hen menu screen goes black and is powered off. If I do see hen on screen it just hangs......will I just keep doing it?

How do you know if its running the program as opposed to being hung?

This stuff is from a couple years ago but if I remember right make sure that the hen.gif is newer on the memorystick than the loader.tif (or vice-versa)
cut/paste the image to your pc desktop and then back onto the memorystick and try launching again

the screen will go black and then it will flash all red or all blue and then it will reset itself back to xmb

So what way are you "supposed" to go into photo folder?

Photo X, right arrow, right arrow?

You got the blue screen! yay! Hen test from the guide means You can run a homebrew app! I just ran the new Daedalusx64 on it (2.80 HEN) successfully...
If you fully restart your psp you will have to reload hen to run homebrew or the X.YZ update (downgrade to 1.5)

It did work....i.e. got blue screen.
I wasn't too sure what was meant about "If successfull you can test hen by trying a application". So I went back into the hen photo and it hung so I had to power off.
Seeing as I did get the blue screen does that mean I can continue on?

How do I : Now execute "Update X.YX"

I'm not sure how to run the test. I did get the blue screen so maybe I should just go do the X.YZ update, do I just connect to the PC again?

Go ahead and run the update from the psp, once you downgrade to 1.5 you can only load unsigned (homebrew) eboots if they are in this 2 folder format (called kxploit) this can be remedied -temporarily- by running the nokxploit patch:
ms0:/psp/game/folder/eboot.pbp
ms0:/psp/game/folder%/eboot.pbp
so once you downgrade to 1.5 you should get hellcat's app, read the included README.TXT and update to the latest dark-alex.org m33 custom firmware for full Sony features and Homebrew compatibility
