I got it at launch, no problems except 4-5 dead pixels (not bad) and a little squeaky noise (hard to notice, got used to it). But a while ago, I was putting it my PSP on a shelf in my PGP, and didn't notice that the object I was putting it on (that was on the shelf already) was slanted, and my PSP fell 3-4 feet. Probobly 3.5. Anyway, I got freaked because it wasn't on carpet, and I turned on my PSP. Phew, it's working, no scratches, UMDs work fine.. Ya. That UMDs work fine, but I've noticed it made a little extra noise.. Especially when loading Gretzky Hockey..
I tried a few more UMDs, and it made the noise again, but not as much. And the noise decreased as days went on, but not fully, a little noise was still there. I didn't really care. I was a little irritated, but not enough to return it right away.
That is until a while ago, when I tried to play Ridge Racer. It took a little longer to recognize the UMD in the XMB menu. I launched it, and was loading normal. Went to single race, selected a car (the car models showed up fine) and then selected a course and started the race. I was on the loading screen, and it never went away. It was stuck there. I tried taking out the UMD, and popping it back in. Didn't work. So I pressed home, and thought I would just launch RR again and it would work, but it didn't. I pressed home, and yes, and it said Please Wait, but it froze there wtf? I had to restart my PSP.
I tried launching it again, same thing.
I tried it the next day, and it didn't even load the car models until I wiped the lens with my shirt.
The wierd thing is, THUG 2 remix works, and so do my other UMDs (although the demo disk took longer to load up the menu for the game section )
It could easily be a problem with the UMD, but I don't see why after almost a year of use, and all of a sudden it breaks? I don't think so.
So what I'm asking is, should I return my PSP? I know I might end up with 2.01, 2.05 or 2.06, but I might also end up with 2.00.
Which also reminds me, can anyone point me to the news post about telling firmware versions by the letter by the serial code?
I'm not too conserned with homebrew, but at the same time, I am. I have mixed feelings. I feel I don't use homebrew that much, and that it gets boring, but then I realize I love homebrew and use it most, but that's because I have 1.5 and can't get GTA Socom or Katamari. So I hope for 2.00 :)
(It really feels wierd saying this, especially since I wrote 2 tutorials on coding for the PSP in lua )
Anyway, this is a long post, which should normally be short, but that's just me. I can't stop writing once I start.
So let me end it with this final question:
"Should I return my PSP and risk getting a 2.XX PSP?
