some more info:

This is not a joke it is really coming I was surprised when I read the news. PSM said the reason the psp's price is not dropping is because they were gathering money to produce the new system. It will be launched in Japan before the end of march of 07.The original psp model will be discontinued once the new model launches.The features they listed so far were 8gb flash memory which is going to be built in.The psp 2 will be much smaller then the original .It will have the camera Sony has been talking about built in. There is going to be a new configuration of the umd slot.The games will be inserted directly into the system, much like a cartridge into a game boy or Nintendo ds game cards.There has been no word about there being a second analog stick.

8 gb flash memory? we can have firmware 1.00 to 3.00 all at once. LMAO. ant that thing will cost like 700$ since a 8 GB memory card is like 550. stupid sony.

flash memory is less expensive than memory cards.. just think a 30 gb ipod video is only $300

Bah.
Unless Sony changes it's entire mindset when it comes to both the PSP and PS3, then I'm not buying one.
A camera built-in? Big whoop. My phone had that almost TWO YEARS before the first PSP hit the store shelf...it should have had one from the beginning.
UMD redesign is OK, but if the manual eject button ever breaks then you're screwed. At least with the V1 PSP you could PRY it open, now you'll have to send it in. And no word on what that extra flash will be used for either...probably savegames and downloadable games/demos/PS1 titles...if it's built-in, then Sony can easily change the firmware to NOT allow copying of games/demos/PS1 titles to the memory stick for uploading all over dem dar internets.
As far as I'm concerned, it's just a rumor until it hits the store shelf.

Wrong. It all depends upon market conditions. Flash memory chip prices tend to fluctuate, especially if there's a shortage or some sort of proprietary flash chip design.

Main problem about the PSP: Too expensive

Solution: Put more stuff in it and charge even more. What's more, let's discontinue the older model so people have absolutley no choice but to get this one (or eBay the older ones I guess)

When will Sony ever learn. I don't want a bloody camera on the PSP. Heck I don't want one on my phone either. Stop shoving it down my throat.

omg sony make the psp, then 5 mins later make a psp 2 and are going to abandon the original. sony wont get another penny off of me for a games console. unless i become very rich or want a ps3 so bad that i want to kill myself. i dont even want this new psp 2. it sounds s**t for the price. theres already 4gb memory cards out and the psp isnt that big. if i could, then it move over to nintendo but their consoles are even crapper, im kinda stuck with sony, although i must admit the psp is a good console, its just sony are ruining it

this is kind of ocward i mean its not like its just gonna be a cosmetic change like theve done before but its going to be a compleatly differnt consle that runs native umds. i mean i want this but i still feel like it hasnt been long enof and that psp having all that flash means that the firmware can be as big as it wants to so meany features..cool...but im kind of happy with choosing to get this attachment and that one im really still very unsure about how this psp "2" will appleal to people i dont know if i would hop on this right away i would wait to see how people respond...hopefully this will be so amazing that its much more appleasing than the current psp

But, with that new 2.71/2.80 exploit found I'll just downgrade this one to 1.50 (whcih is originally was) and then buy one of the new PSPs.
