We all know this is the inevitable!!!
Even those who run their games off the ms, an update will always be required. But what we really need is as much help on being able to flash the firmware (like formatting a hard-drive) and rebuilding the v1.50 from scratch. This way, those who want to play the latest games eg GTA:LS CAN play them but then they decide to play homebrew or run the older games off the MS, just flash their firmware, rebuild v1.50, play their old games, then once again they want to play a new game, install v.2.0 and away they go. Impratical as it may seem, it would save ALOT of stupid patches and no update checks, which WILL NOT work as no doubt the games will try to read newer code libaries, resulting in corrupted games and smashed PSP's (as they hit the floor from frustrated gamers) What is your opinion of this matter? (!Sorry for poor english and grammar!) |

Rockman, that requires 1.52 firmware runs fine on 1.50 if you boot it up with fastloader, so dont talk about unknow stuff, thanks !

Scratches chin, hmmmmmm so games don't require different code libaries (this is looking good already)
Note: never said i knew what i was talking about, (just mixed rumours in different forums) just throwing up my own opinion to what the future (hopefully) holds |

We will see it when the first 2.0 games arrive, if the need "new librarys" - If they need those we are screwed
and Sony, sorry to you, i would buy GTA:LCS but if it requires an update to 2.0, unlucky you, youll loose a buyer, since i wont upgrade for no game in the world. And we all should do it that way, if game sales stuck, sony MUST do something, and maybe they will allow homebrew, in some way.

He he he, i like the sound of that, don't buy updated games and Sony will have to allow homebrew.
We are truly f**ked though as MANY, MANY ppl who will buy a PSP once it arrives in the uk have never heard of homebrew and prob will never hear of homebrew and ms loaded games. Oh well it deserves everyone who breaches the piracy law's right but for homebrew, now that's just not fair, OLD console game emulation is brilliant and a good way to remember how games started with old classics. Well it seems we are in for a pain in the arse ride :silenced: |

I've said this once before but never found the thread to veiw the reply. Anyhow what i said was As v1.0 and 1.5 can run unsigned code is it not possible to modify the v2.00 update to exclude the added security?

There is also very little difference between 1.52 and 1.5, whereas the differences between 1.5 and 2.0 are quite marked...there is still no clear answer, people. Rockman may work skipping 1.52, but that doesn't mean 2.0 will do the same, or future versions for that matter..

As long as it doesn't require some of the changes for infrastructure play or graphical changes...in which case, those would have to be disabled completely in order for the game to work, if it were even possible. Again, no one knows.

Aghh! Threads like these are SO confusing to the casual forum user which is EXACTLY why we get so many damn questions about this repeatedly.
The TRUTH is... 1. No UMD game will EVER automatically update your PSP firmware. 2. YOU will ALWAYS be given the CHOICE to update or not. You then have to CHOOSE between the following (A or B): A. Go ahead and PERFORM the firmware update procedure to be able to PLAY the new game you just bought now. B. Do NOT perform the firmware update and WAIT until a crack or hack is available that will allow you to play the game on your current firmware. 3. New UMD games coming out in the near future WILL most likely REQUIRE you to make the A or B choice above. That decision will ALWAYS be up to you, and you alone, to make. IF you are AT ALL WORRIED about firmware issues, you are most likely using homebrew, emulators or other such firmware dependent software. AND, if you ARE one of the above, then buying and playing a newly released game WILL put you in a dilemna of having to make the difficult choice... On the other hand, IF you bought your PSP to be able to play every new game as soon as it comes out, NONE OF THIS should bother you in the least. P.S. IF you experience deja vu reading this, it's because I posted this in BOTH of the threads that are heatedly discussing this situation. |

Easy Answer = ???????
No one will know until a game with 2.0 is released. I'd say the chances are very good that a game with a 2.0 requirement will be unplayable when they first come out. Now for the new code/libraries that may be needed for 2.0... Well you never know what determined hackers/games will come up with to play the games they want to play and to earn respect from the community.. Every game is hacked and playable sooner or later....it's inevitable. (I said this in a previous post) Remember Half Life 2 on the PC? It required a connection to Steam at all times to play the game (even in single player mode). What did hackers do? Steam Emulation – Poof! The game was playable better than a retail copy. The above example may or may not apply to what is possible on the PSP but it does give you a sense that anything is possible if the determination is there. Perhaps there is no new code library's to use for games, maybe someone will find a way to flash what we need in terms of library's, maybe a downgrade, maybe a 2.0 Hack, or (if features of 2.0 are needed) we just emulate the needed libraries and files. The point is we won't know tell we have it, and someone will figure out a way. The only thing we can do is have patience. You can upgrade and play it...or you can have some patience and wait. The choice is always yours... |
