Default Volume Hack?

I really would like to use my PSP as an mp3 player, but even with the volume to the max, it doesn't come close to the power output of an iPod. Is there any way to increase the volume any further?

There are many freeware programs out there that will boost the volume level of MP3 files. I suggest using Google to find one.

better headphones work such as ipod headphones which I use for my psp and they seem to increase the volume. You can also try calling tech support or emailing Song (Playstation Corp.) to see if they have any options.

Since the PSP's volume isn't that great, try installing Goldwave (this can up the volume of an MP3 file)

Hello all, first post (but not a noob)

I agree with applejuice! the volume on the psp is insufficient to use it as a regular mp3 player. The use of better headphones makes a small difference, but not much or anywhere near enough (i use the Sony MDR-EX71 headphones). I also think that is it well within the realms of possibility for someone to develop a little prog that alters the firmware to allow higher volume levels. Here is my reasoning:

If you buy an iPod in europe (as i did) then you will find that the maximum volume is signifigantly less than that of the north american version (im not sure about the rest of the world).

The reason for this being so is that a looong time ago when iPods were just coming about the volume was not limited. so naturally someone listened to their iPod too loud and sued Apple for damage to their hearing. They won and Apple had to pay....and limited the volume of european iPods to prevent it happening again.

SOOOOO.....Someone made a little program (called iMod i think) that de-limits the volume of european iPods by changing ONE value in the firmware somewhere. Its a program that runs from the PC with the iPod connected.

Now, im not sure what the state of things are so far as accessing the firmware to make such a change are at the moment, but i GUARANTEE that somewhere in the firmware there will be a little variable limiting the maximum output of the PSP's amp....we just need to find it.

Woh, long post. lol

Cheers!

you might also want to try one of those third party sound systems they feature over at psp411.

Use the equalizer in DJ PSP. It works and the main volume boosts.
