Default Would this be possible? PSP>USB Host?

Been doing a lil' research on the feesability of using a PC's HDD or a external HDD to store files that the PSP can read&run (and not just copy to MS!)

After a talk with a few devs.. including Yoshihiro (that guy from WAB) they seem to think with some hardgraft coding wise, it could be done... making the PSP act as a HOST... therefore allowing us to access a HDD and open movies etc.

Do any other devs here think that this will be possible?

I can't see why not. I have a feeling that if it does happen it will be through something other than the usb port. Eg. memory stick reader , or the port for the remote next to the head phones. but hopefuly just software.

Thread Revival! It must be done! We can stream at 480mbps from the USB2 so we should be able to stream movies/music/ROMs etc. through a homebrew app that will just access usb:// and so forth.

Assuming the USB hardware chip isn't as closed-minded as say the CY7C68310 and won't allow any kind of access to the stick other than removable media, then yes it might be possible.

thanks to mrbrown for realising that a blocksize of 512byte multiples is needed when reading from it.
Nothing on a usb directly, but I'm sure a homebrew application could be used to access the port regardless of apparent protocol.

The first version of the Fastloader accessed the USB port .
I had brought up a while back when it Fastloader was all the rave , that i really could careless about it being a almost ' universal ISO loader '. Yet was shocked to see it accessed the USB port . Of course , no one cared . Freegames was the topic . Anyways , the newest version doesnt .
Thats my 2cents .
Also remember dont talk about the Fastloader in detail here , it could A , get you banned or B , get this thread locked .
Peace , Hef

Why would you wanto do it through software throught the usb 2.0 port

the pspx device can use an external harddisk through the memorystick duo slot.
And it's not for copy only because when you are using the pspx there's no memory card to copy data to. So when you connect your ipod the psp think's it's using a 40gb memory stick pro duo
And you can also use other emory types

Well, if a Camera is planned for the PSP, that must mean that the USB port can do more than just act as a mass storage device. The PSP has some way to read data from it. I just wonder if there is any way to receive raw data from the USB Port...

If that were possible, you could make a driver for the Mass Media Standard...
