It takes time, dont do it just because homebrew has become a little slow. Just watch, day after you update N64 gets emulated on PSP...lol or better a homemade browser and video player with supported for all man and some monkey made codecs.

What? That's crazy talk! SNESTYL - first emulator to make use of the GPU, more are sure to follow once source is released. x86 emulator - c'mon, Windows and Linux on the PSP! The newest File Manager program is amazing! And everyone loves Squarez! :)Originally Posted by crowba
Not to mention the near future release of what looks like several different shell programs. ;)

Simply NOT true! New stuff comes out EVERY SINGLE day.
Not all may be GREAT in YOUR eyes, but all those everyday advances will be the building blocks for much better stuff down the road. If you can't see that, then I feel sorry for you.
Of course, maybe you really mean that there's just no new homebrew that YOU like or find useful??? If that's the case, go ahead and upgrade if you want to.
I personally like having my program options wide-open.
Consider everything that has happend in just four and a half months since the PSP came out. It's amazing. I expected this sort of progress not to happen for a year. by March 2006 I can't even imagine what's gonna be out and I can't wait to find out.
What about in two years............*does homer style drool*Originally Posted by morrrisseyshair

What kind of progress do you expect? This is breakneck speed and a lot better than anyone could have hoped for, you obviosuly don't understand the homebrew scene very well.
WTF I HAVE WINDOWS AND LINUX ON MY PSP!! HOW THE H*** IS IT DEAD!!!!homebrew is dead
anyone who says "homebrew is dead" have'nt been paying much attention to the news lately. Win/Linux emus, homebre games galore(partually thanks to the contest) A PS1 emu coming soon, at least 1 PSP OS, and a "mysterious" emu coming from PSPDirt on the 25th. Homebrew dont look dead to me...

As long as people have ideas for new uses for the psp, homebrew will never die. As far as the operating systems go, what can you do with them? I havent seen any advantages to them other than the notepad. Even though it doesnt pertain to me (2.0 psp) im still curious.
Let me try to understand your logic... :think:Originally Posted by crowba

What's 2.0 gonna bring you?
wanna make things intresting, then learn c++ and make your own homebrew, this will allow you to make Whatever your heart desires. i mean how often do you get to do that?

homebrew's not dead it's just comming to life.
the psp has only been out for a few months and look at all the cool stuff
Homebrew's not dead, at least not yet.
The problem is that so much stuff has come out so early in the life cycle of the PSP that any time there is a slowdown, even for a day or two, people can get to thinking that it's the end of the world.
On a related note, I believe that homebrew will most likely hit it's apex without ever producing truly great programs. There are some neat little bits out there, but nothing that compares to what can be done by the big companies. Even the best web browser, the one that all the non-upgraders point to when they're putting down the 2.0 firmware browser, is a pirated copy of something made by a big company and not something developed by homebrew developers.
a new browser or new psp os?(cant think of the name...the psix project thats being redon by ron on pspu i think?) hmmmm...? :)
EDIT : Slap him with a fish! :Jump: jk bro
Give me a team of 100+ developers working full time for over a year and a multi-million dollar budget, and I'll give you a "great" game.Originally Posted by GodMedia
First of all, the games that are out for the PSP from the real companies aren't that good in the first place, and second of all, how the hell do you get off comparing the two... commercial games and homebrew games are not meant to compete with each other...
i have the program for c++ but i lost the book, does anyone have an e-book i can use?
you mean, you accidently upgraded to 2.0 and now homebrew sucks..right?
Haha could be the case. Homebrew cant die, thats like saying art is dead. Homebrew is self expression in gaming form. :)
Chill, son. If you don't like what the corporate office is giving you, fine.Originally Posted by Yeldarb
My comment is related to comments from the anti-upgraders. They keep telling us how homebrew is going to be so much better than anything released by the companies. Your own comment shows that this just won't ever be so, "Give me a team of 100+ developers working full time for over a year and a multi-million dollar budget, and I'll give you a "great" game." You see, neither you nor any of the homebrew developers and teams can develop what the companies can. So, you're right, there is no comparison. Homebrew cannot and will not ever be all that great. And, that was my point.
Furthermore, you are being rather ignorant if you think that homebrew and commercial games can't be compared. Commercial games are the very benchmark by which all other software can be judged. Commercial games show us what can be accomplished when the full potential of a system is accessed. Maybe the commercial games aren't always what we want them to be, and maybe they don't always exploit the system's capabilities the best, but they, as a whole, present a bar for all developers to reach. How else can we determine how much farther we have to go in our own endeavors? Those teams of "100+ developers working full time for over a year and a multi-million dollar budget" show us what the potential is, we then measure our work by how much of that potential we have achieved and overcome, and we measure how much further we can go.
That, son, is how I "get off on comparing the two."
Dude, its not dead at all! Be patient, man. Go outside, enjoy the sunlight. After a while you might be pleased to know that something new has developed. I'm having a hard time being patient on 2.0 to be released also, but just dont lose hope. Just because theres no emulators on 1.51+ doesn't mean anythings dead.
I'll gladly trade you my 2.0 psp for your 1.5. I've never even had homebrew due to having a 1.51 psp. Want the browser? So take it! Here it is, comes with a mint condition psp as well. Don't let your 1.5 go to waste. Homebrew is sooo much better and 2.0 browser isn't as great as expected. I still use firefox all the time.
Some developers might also be holding their homebrew games/apps to refine and enter in the contest that ends in about 3 weeks.
I'm actually one of them, been working on a arcade style space shooter. It's totally playable now but I'm probably not releasing it so I can see how it stacks up to the others in the contest. I'm sure there's other developers out there doing the same thing.
Have faith though, more apps are being released everyday. It's amazing how much tallent is being donated by everyone in the community.
The problem is that there's more to homebrew than games. I agree with you, homebrew games won't be "better" than commercial games (although better is extremely subjective). But there is so much more that homebrew opens that Sony would never allow their developers to produce. For example, VNC, Remote Control, Emulators, etc.

I gladly invite anyone who thinks homebrew is dead to go update, delete their forum account, and never come back to PSPUpdates.com. If you thought that, why would you be here, where there is a devotion to homebrew? It is like going to church one day and listening to the sermon and saying you still think God doesn't exist. Then why go in the first place?
