Default gpSP with working FF6 on slim?

Most versions of gpSP I've used have a display bug with FF6 that makes the game unplayable after the opening. I had found one version (I think it was unofficial) "UO gpSP kai" that was able to run FF6 fine on fat psps with 1.50 kernel, but it doesn't work on a slim. The versions of gpSP I tried that do work for the slim again can't run it. Has anyone found one that will, or a setting that fixes it?

slim doesn't have 1.5 kernel and 3.71 M33 doesn't have 1.5 kernel either. and im sure its not just a setting. there are compatibility issues with the game.
