Just to let every one know in case anyone is interested I have found a way to play several custom PWADS with doom for the psp. for those of you who dont know, a PWAD is a patch wad that is basicaly user created levels made by the people in the doom comunity, many of wich surpass the original doom/doom 2 levels in both detail and gameplay.
Anyway here is how you do it. using a program called WinTex, wich I was going to attach the file of but it is 281 kb so it wouldnt let me. if there is a way to override that or I can email the attachment to someone else who can post it, like a premium member or something. anyway using it you can combine two wads into one and if you join a PWAD with the original DOOM2.WAD and then put that file in the Wad folder in the doom directory and load it up it will be the custom levels. I have tried a couple of different pwads but not all, basically if the wad does not use any special source port features like those used in ZDOOM (slopes, bridges, custom monsters/weapons, scripting) it should run. The pwads I have tried (but not fully tested all the way through) are Hell Revealed 1 and 2 and Scythe. others that I havent tried but should work are Alien Vendetta, Momento Mori 1,2 and Moredeath if anyone has any further questions feel free to ask and if anyone else can confirm any additional pwads working feel free to post them here. some problems with using this method are if you try to load up a save file from normal doom it will crash the program so if you are saving and loading just remember wich ones are wich since you cant name the saves. P.S. almost all pwads can be found at www.doomworld.com under the levels link on the right in case you are wondering. -MrPhysics |

well not to be rude but, using search out of the 4 pages it resulted with, all there was were threads about crappy golden eye and simpson conversions and only one that mentioned wintex that was about playing "x-rated" mods that got no replies what so ever. So I was prety confident that not too many people had really payed attention to it. I just thought some people might be interested in playing levels that are actually fun, besides the original ones. Or that may be bored with the original levels. But if no one cares, whatever I will just go back to playing Hell Revealed and Scythe with my friends.

That fun to know!
Now I can put my old doom-psp back to work. Two quick questions:Are these WADs legal? And I'm still confused, can you play those "GoldenEyes" and "Quake" WADs that are up for download in Legion's thread? |

Well im glad someone got something out of this. As far as the best mods to play would go its all up to your personal taste. If your looking for a really good challenge try Hell Revealed, on the medium difficulty its about as hard as plutonia is on UV. I wouldnt really recoment it on psp because the controls are a litte difficuld but Scythe is Awsome for the PSP. Small fun levels that you can beat in a few minutes without having to wander around looking for where your supposed to go next(I hate that) and it still offeres a good chalenge that gradually builds to quite challenging on the later levels, 20+ are really badass Hell themed levels.
Alien Vendeta, Momento Mori and Moredeath are also incredible and were designed by expert mappers and in alot of cases an entire team of people. if you have a good computer I would also recomend my favorite mod wich is called Deus Vult but you need a prety beefy comp and ZDoom to run it. its probably the biggest most detailed doom level in existence. To answer the question about the legality of these wads, yes they are completely legal as long as you have a legal copy of the DOOM2.wad, ID software is actually fully supportive of custom wads and even released the full source code to the original doom games that make source ports possible. in fact they host a lot of the pwads themselves. Im not sure if you could play the golden eye wads, but if all they do is change the graphics it might be possible. since I have no desire to play a golden eye mod I wouldnt know. But I assume that if it would work all you would need to do is dl the PWAD and merge it with the DOOM2 wad and put it in the wad folder. -Mr. Physics |

Wow I didnt realize it be before but the psp version of doom is more than just the original doom ported to psp. it turns out it supports bridges, I know that may not sound like a big deal but doom and doom 2 never had anything like bridges (being able to walk on and walk under an object) if you remember all bridges in doom always went to the floor, you couldnt walk under them. but after playing a decent way through Scythe I knoticed that there was a working bridge on around level 19. I wonder if it supports the new monsters from the monster resorce wad. I think Requiem has some custom monsters I will try that wad. and that means Scythe 2 should also work
. MrViewtiful- yeah, I think the tnt fix is just a patch so it should work. however the fix for the Doom 2 wad was actually a program that patched the wad itself, it wasnt a pwad so either way. |

I think I did it wrong, all I did was rename the PWAD to DOOM2.WAD like other mods, but I see thats not the case, I have to patch together one of these PWADS and DOOM2.WAD together right? Im gonna search for that program now, just wanted to make sure. These PWADS are just what I need to keep playing "new" dooms.
::EDIT:: I got Alien Vendetta working, its like a whole new DOOM... PENIS RUBBING MADNESS!! and all these WADS are LEGAL so its all good. The Megawads are where its at so you dont always have to load a one-level wad , whereas the megawads are like full 32 level packs... mmm
