The Famicon disk system is a seperate console as far as I know. Also, triple posting is frowned on by me and pretty much anyone else. If someone knew the answer they'd answer.

The Famicom Disk System was an actual 1.44MB floppy disk drive that connectecd with the Japanese Famicom (NES). It allowed for games like Metroid to be run in a time before cartridges were big enough to handle the memory needed for them. I believe that the Dirty Pair and Gall Force games are the only two that didn't get released as cartridges after larger capacities were available.

Emulation of the Disk System on NesterJ is a bit spotty and requires a bios file that is illegal to have. There is nothing really great here.

One interesting note is that Nintendo worked with Sony on a CD Disk System for the Super Famicom (SNES), but ditched the idea leaving Sony with a CD-based gaming technology that they didn't have any other use for. Much as Atari had failed to grab up the rights to the NES and make it big in the next wave of video gaming after the VCS, Nintendo could have aborted the PlayStation before it was ever born and been the market leader today, still.
