okay, i recently downloaded all of the kanji video things from the development forum, and since i have no background in japanese, i was wondering if there was homebrew to start learning japanese

There's quite a few. Just typing in Japanese on dl.qj.net brings up multiple programs, like this one.

Hey, I don't know about homebrew, but this book is awesome, I bought it for myself and it's really helpful.
