PacManFan is still working on his PSOne emulator (he's even released an alpha version, check the files section) and it will be ready when its ready. The PSOne emulator that this refers to was an obvious fake and one that everyone knew was fake the moment the video surfaced. This is seriousley old news.

I don't think PSP has enough processing power to run a totally smooth PS1 emulator... so don't put too much hope into it.

Well everyone knows that the architecture of the PSP is based on the PS2 which was designed to work well with the PS1, so if they could just program a PS1 emulator that is similar in design to the PS2's support for PS1 games it would run full speed no problem! I just made all that up on the spot, but it sounds good, right?

If Sony made their own PSP port of Final Fantasy VII (it would fit onto one UMD), then I would buy it.

With that, and maybe the same for the original MGS, what's the need for a PS1 emulator?

Default Right here

I'm still working on the PSPSOne emu. I've been on vacation for the past week, but I expect to get back into developing the recompiler in the next few days. I'm now working with another developer(Baggers) who is working the GPU plugin. He's putting in GE calls to give hardware acceleration to the triangle rendering functions and to the blitting. I'm working on speeding up the emulation with the recompiler. There are still a few more details and issues to work out with the recompiler, but overall, it's progressing nicely.

I'm not going to promise any release dates, but I can tell everyone that full speed PS1 emulation is definately possible and coming.

Donations would be nice, it might help Baggers and I to find more time in our busy lives.(Hint Hint)

I'll see if I can post some more screen shots soon.

PacManFan could you tell me your Paypal address and we'll add it to the official donation thread, coupled with a couple of screenshots I'm sure we'll be able to get you a little help.

Oh, and to hear you say full speed PS1 emulation makes me a very happy guy!

mabye a little bigger, depends if you count all the disks (ff7 would be pretty close to a gig all togeather), and what kind of compression he lets us use (he talked about 7zip)

The PSP's 333 MHz processor could easily handle a PS1 emulator.

Remember Bleemcast for the Dreamcast? The DC had a 200 MHz processor and could emulate PSX games perfectly.

PacMan Fan has already implemented gzip, so the isos will be about half the size. Take away cut scenes and dummy files and most disc isos will be under 100MB with a few exceptions.

Also, for things like Final Fantasy do you really need all three discs at once? I mean each disc'll last you roughly 20 hours so having one on at a time would be more than sufficient. This game had lots of FMV so if you took that away and then gziped the file the discs would be quite small, I'd imagine between 100MB - 250MB max. per disc. So there may even be the possability of fitting it all on a 512MB stick tho this would be pushing it.

I was recently trying to figure out PS1 emulation on PSP myself, but I don't think I understand it, it so damn hard, i'm amazed at what you guys pull off. Best of luck guys! I may even donate something later.

Me goes back dreaming...

no what he means is you CAN open up the ISO images and take out the FMV's and sound files (mabye others) which will help the size. And most games dont use the full disk. I could see a cutdown gziped iso being about 100 - 50 Mb on average(but some people must have their FMV's)

considering that the original psone used a MIPS R3000A for its main cpu,
the MIPS R4000A in the psp uses the MIPS II Instruction set, and is compatible with all its predecessors.

so theres half your work done, cpu calls dont need to be emulated so i hope you arent porting the core from another emulator.
