Being Christmas I want to buy a PSP for my cousin, but I want to make sure I get him a moddable PSP. Is there anyway to tell which PSP-2001 models are moddable and not before purchasing? Like the box or anything?

I have had 2 friends bring me their newly purchased consoles (slims) and I tried to mod them but the pandora doesn't boot up. Running DC7.

if I'm not mistaken, the only psp so far that is un-hackable is the new one with the microphone built in. A pandora definitely does all the work on everything else. I've done hundreds if not a couple thousand psp's both phat and sl;im's fresh out of their box. without even bothering to look. Just peep the front bottom of the new psp's for the mic.

If I am wrong, someone correct me please and I'll retract most of the above in an edit.

Yes, the PSP-3000 series systems (the ones with the mic) are unhackable, but so are the latest PSP-2000 series systems as well. The unhackable PSPs have TA-088v3 motherboards.

AFAIK there's really no way to tell which PSP is hackable and which isn't from the box..

That is what I believed also, I tried to mod 2 new slim consoles that were bought on November 2008 and Pandora would not work.

I know 3000 model isn't moddable yet, they have the slim blue datel tool just need the IPL hack.
