Okay. To be fair. I am not saying that hidden somewhere on his hd there is a working or semi working downgrader/hack.
I'm just saying that from what I see here it is not all that different then just changing that update_ver value and not swapping the cards. It checks again after the eboot is run for the version. The first check is easy to bypass its the one when the update actually runs that is the problem.

as muc as i hate to admit it, i think that i need wabs help. I cant fully understand how to COMPLETELY change the version number without messing up the dynamic signature. Fraid i might not be able to do any more. tell me if you have any ideas

I thought he downgraded a psp 2.00 to 1.50.. Oooohhh im getting excited now... (again) i just hope he gets the info he needs on this ms2 file!

I am very curious what technique the WAB team is using to downgrade.
I haven't done any developing for the PSP so i dont know much about it, but I think i read that there is a way to change the version number of the firmware, without actually changing the firmware. If this is true, then would it not be possible to hack the 1.5 upgrader to read as a version 15.0 (or anything above 2.0), then instal it, then change the version number to the correct version with the afformentioned hack.
Perhaps this is the technique WAB is already using?
Like I said, I'm not sure this would work, but theoreticly it seems to make the most sence.

i think that WAB has misled a lot of people and i don't know what their motives are for sure but i think they are jerks.
it seems like from what they've done, there's a lot of people that should have gotten donated $ for testing on the different PSP firmwares.
I still think that they will release the downgrader eventually. I will wait years if I have to(ok maybe not years because PSP2 might be out by then.) but I will wait a while because it will be worth it. And even if WAB is unable to finish there downgrader they could at least release all there findings giving someone else a chance to improve and make the downgrader work.

You may have noticed I haven't been publically following WAB's PSP downgrader on TehSkeen due to a few reasons, but have finally decided to post as some hard evidence has been presented. First you should understand that I was asked to pariticipate in the original beta tests, but declined due to lack of time. Since then I've kept in touch with the team and have already known about the additional features and functionality of WAB's downgrader, but as a man of my word I did not leak any information.
As above I mentioned events that have taken place and like I've always stated I'm only going to post hard news and not tiny tidbits of rumors, speculation and litter the news page with minor updates to useless applications. The timeline of events are as followed:
* I was asked to beta test an exploit for the WAB downgrader and declined
* The exploit was tweaked and incorperated into the downgrader
* Beta testers successfully downgraded their PSP's
* WAB gave an released date of the first of this month and missed it
* Yoshi held off the release until he could obtain a free PSP
* Yoshi failed to release the downgrader when he got his PSP
* WAB's IRC channel was taken over and they moved
* Yoshi used this an as excuse to gain more time tweaking the upgrader
* Yoshi discovered a new exploit for downgrading an re-wrote the downgrader
* Beta testers successfully downgraded their PSP
* WAB releases a video of the downgrader in action
I do know more specifics about the downgrader itself, but you're going to have to wait and find out for yourself. The video in question was released showing an successful downgrade. I had a team of video experts analyize the video to confirm it was not a fake. I do not know when the downgrader will be released.
You can download the video here (7.5MB). Note that the original video was encoded using an outdated version of XVID that does not play back using the most current version so I have converted it myself so it will play. If it doesn't then get the newest XVID codecs as you should of already had them to begin with.
