so anyways, seargent can you downgrade to 1.0 on US PSP?
I just took a look at the video and that is nothing nobody has done before. I did that 2 months ago at least using an altered SFO on one MS and the update on the other.
Personally, I think the WAB will come out on top with this one, but only time will tell.
to the person saying about 1.0 and browser- im using an update to downgrade, not a full flash, so it overwrites only neccesary files PERHAPS leaving the browser. the fact that im using an update also makes it impossible to go to 1.0, as there was never an update for it.
Will this work on 2.0?
if he did it to 1.5 it will work for 1.0 just be passient and let the man work i bet he is working on it rigth nowOriginally Posted by Showmann
So are you saying that the ability to play atrac and AVC might be left in after the downgrade?Originally Posted by seargent007
You have to fully re-write the flash to successfully downgrade your PSP, because if you don't, files conflict, the PSP is a hybrid and is bricked. In other words, no 2.0 browser and 1.5 homebrew in the same package. Sorry.
people people, stop buggiong the man, he has work to be done...and i do believe the web browser and aac playback would be left over, seeing as there isnt anything to be written over when going back to 2.0. so in other words, this downgrade will leave all of the features of 2.0, while still retrieving homebrew...but wait...doesn't that mean that the extra securit wont be written over either? unless he has already thought of this, but if he hasnt, then all hes doing is changing the name of the firmware from 2.0 back to 1.5, and that isnt quite useful now is it...oh...this could be bad people...
that isnt for sure. there are no "conflicting" files as if they are different in the update, they are replaced.
uhhh. seargeant? did you think to add files to overwrite the 2.0 security? if you didn't, then i don't think this is going to do very much...
i think it will be easier if it were to have the normal features of 1.5 once u go back.
if 1.50 replaced 1.0s security files, it will do the same for 2.0. think about it.
2.0 psp->(something).(something )
update says to replace that with ITS version of it.
That doesn't matter...seargeant, you said that if you were to downgrade, then the 2.0 features such as aac and browser woudl stay, if that were the case, the wouldnt the security of 2.0 stay as well? im a firm believer that what your doing is legit, but if you are legit, this mens that everything you are doing is for nil.
ok, if anyone wants this testing, please post complete instructions, and files needed.....i`ll test ;) and do video etc etc
for the record, he said maybe. which indicates a possibility. he's looking to dissect and remove/overwrite particular files at this moment, wipe it down; which is why his suggestion is different than an altogether downgrade.Originally Posted by AzureBlack
Even if the browser and support for other new things stayed (specifically the browser) XMB wouldnt show the browser as it would be 1.5...This is getting confusing. Only two things I would like to keep when downgrading: Wallpaper support and Browser. Video will take time to become homebrewable, specially things like XviD and DivX but Im willing to wait; And Im fine with MP3, no need for AAC or whatever.
Best downgrade would be one that overote just the portion that handles the security, then there would be no usability lost.
so in other words, the downgrade would have a command line in it that tells the psp's security to be deleted and be replaced with the 1.5 security? i hope he thought of such.
why not replace it with the 1.0 ones (if there were any... ;) )?
well your terminology is a bit off, but yes, you have the right idea.Originally Posted by AzureBlack
There isnt realy anything to test as of yet and its also been proven that reusing an update will not work, this was proven by somone using the wab firmware changer and using an update file, it will brick the PSP causing conflict. My view on this is that WABs downgrader will replace files in the 2.0 firmware that may conflict with the 1.5 firmware with dummy files. By the way I also got news that WAB confirmed that 2.0 has been downgraded to 1.5 now so it shouldnt be long for the downgrader.
Anyway, back to the topic, I think this downgrader isnt going to even get off the ground, no effense or anything but I think it will make a brick. of your PSP, theres no need for another downgrader as WAB and PSPDev will be releasing one anytime now that sucessfully works.
I think the features of 2.0 will be added later on in a new addition of the WAB firmware changer, I think they can do it.
I dont think you are thinking this through.Originally Posted by AzureBlack
if the firmware _FILES_ from 1.5 are successfully replaced then his ideas are not for nil. one of two things will happen, the files from 1.5 will not link to the files from 2.0 there for it is likely that the brouseer and aac will not exist. HOWEVER, I have seen alot of "automagic" detection in the PSP, IE: I add a UMD it automatically detects it, I add a memory card, it auto matically sees as aposed to there being a symbolic link there that if there is no disk/MS in it errors out with "please insert a disk" like other consoles. so the theory is that if 1.5 automatically looks for menu items then the menu item for the web browser will auto detect and VIOLA! web intact, the aac however id a service, I dont think those are so much auto detected.
basically we have a 50-50 chance of this working... but WHO CARES!?!?!
look folks we are missing the one mose important incey little detail here! if we can replace files in 2.0 firmware (or any other firmware for that mater) then why the HELL are we trying to "downgrade"?!? the 1.5 firmware will become unable to play newer and newer games as sony comes up with more and better ways of locking it out and no amout of version changers will work. it has already been deturmined that the first boot file in the OS loader is subject to a crc scan at boot, so replaceing that file is out of the question. BUT what if we were to... oh I dont know replace the entire firmware with a "dash" of our own design?!? think about it, wouldnt it be cool to boot your PSP and have PSIX load? and not have to worry about exploits anymore? you see s of the world, stop looking for exploits. start looking for a way to load a single program... like a file browser... with the ability to view the firmware and rewrite it. so we can simply drop into the file assistant
(or whatever) and move PSIX or X-OS-WHATER into the firmware and bid fairwell to sony's crappy "no homebrew" policy.
anyone out there here me?

Xbox does the firmware thing real nice, flash the bios and tada, got a nice dash with the ability to launch unsigned xbe's.
EDIT: If sarge or whoever has ways to flash the bios externally (hooked to a PC) then I wouldnt really care about him bricking his PSP's trying to get downgraders/mods to works as it isnt that hard to reflash chips, done it plenty to Xbox ones.
here here! i agree. 4uck sony, lets begin anew with a filebrowser. when sony updates, we will too! only they cant keep us out! Make our own firmware and stick it to sony!
I hate to admit it guys, but benny has a point, u seem to be getting way over your head.Originally Posted by benyboybob
