Default Gen 5.50 question

Hi guys, I have a quick question regarding the Gen 5.50 A firmware. I'm currently running 5.00 m33-6 and want to be able to play a couple of the new games that require 5.50. My question is: Do I need to format or backup my memory card if I install the new firmware or will everything remain in place etc. Do all the folders remain the same etc??

Any advice or reccomendations would be appreciated.

You can run those games without upgrading to 5.50 by modifying version.txt in the flash0. Just see this thread.

@roccos, you are welcomed to the forums. You have to edit it through your PC. Access your PSP's flash0 (by pressing SELECT to go to the VSH menu, then changing USB DEVICE to Flash0), and it'll be under the etc folder, open it up, by any program that can read texts. Then blank the text, and copy/paste this to it.

At last, save it, disconnect your PSP, rechange the USB DEVICE back to where is was, and play your game.

P.S: there shouldn't be a space between : and p, as placed in bold. Just remove it, then copy/paste it.

Tried that no luck. Looks like I might have to wait and see if anyone can confirm madden10 is playable under m33-6. Apparently it will under Gen A firmware. I might have to go that. Is there any dramas or changes needed to go from m33-6 to Gen-A or is it as straight forward as going from m33-5 to m33-6 etc.. ?? Thanks

@roccos, hmmm. Some games work with the version.txt trick. Anyways, no there isn't, but you should beware that first update to GEN-A then GEN-B. There is also 10% chance that you might have a brick, so it is better to keep a Pandora battery beside you.

turn it off and hold right trigger while turning it on. Go to configuration and you'll see the option to enable recovery menu(Use VshMenu)

Does this works with all of the latest titles? In other words, we really do not need an updated m33 firmware just yet? I hope that is true

@zektor, well it should work with the ones that require to user 5.55 if you used the 5.55 version.txt. If not, then we need an updated CFW.
