PSP mud client ideas
I'm actually very excited that some work has been done on mud clients for the psp. I know eelim wrote in a description that he wasn't sure how he could make commands easy to use for non-text input users. I have some ideas for this and I'd love to see it come to fruition.
First thing that we can do is have the r button bring up a radial menu like what's done in a few ps3 games. From this radial there could be 8 slots and the user can choose what commands to put in those slots. These could also house macros, or a series of commands.
Next we could have a command list menu, brought up with the L1 button. This would be an alphabetical list of commands for the game. The player would be able to add and remove from this list manually.
To compliment this, the player could go to L1 and hit a button to 'scan' for commands. Most muds have some sort of command list reference, such as typing /help or /command, or /?. Then it would automatically populate the command list with all found commands.
For complex commands that require variable input, the user could go to the command in the list, hit a button and scan for possible variables or put them in manually. Then when they select this command from L1 or the radial, it would then give them sub options for the variables.
When not in a menu or radial, one of the four buttons should just repeat the last command executed, as this is something that's needed in many muds, such as making the same attack multiple times.
Context sensitive radial. It's more complicated, but it's possible that it could be programmed such that after seeing certain text on the screen, a second radial could contain specific context sensitive options, eventually allowing the player with enough input, to use only the radial as quick command input.
Anyways, those are my ideas, hopefully eelim or someone else is still interested in making a full mud client for the psp.
