I know that I have been hinting at this for a while, but now the project is in full swing. As a part of our research on how the PSP's Game Sharing function works, we need a full dump of a complete Game Sharing transfer. Those familiar with the program ethereal, it would be greatly appreciated if you can do this for us.
All you need to do is turn ethereal on, then start hosting the file on one PSP. Have your other PSP then download the file. Once you are done that, stop ethereal from capturing the packets. People interested or you are completed and want to send te file to me, please contact me via Google Talk or email at seanraf@gmail.com Thank you. |

Hay there!
I'm working with senraf on that project. He asked me to describe the whole process of doing that dump in ethereal to make it easier for anyone who is willing to help. First of all you need 2 PSPs (version doesn't matter) and a game that supports the game sharing feature, preferably Burnout Legends, since I have that one too and it would make reverse engineering easier for me. You will also need some wireless equipment installed on the computer you are doing this. So this is the process: 1. Download and install ethereal from http://www.ethereal.com/. It's an open source program so you don't have to buy anything. The installation process is pretty straight forward and it will also install winpcap, which you need to run ethereal. 2. Go to the Windows Control Panel and click on Network Connections. Right Click you wireless adapter and click on enable, if it isn't already enabled. Right Click it again and select "View available Wireless Networks". 3. Power up the first psp and turn the wlan switch on. Then click on "refresh network list", it should detect you psp. Connect to it. 4. Start up ethereal and select capture->interfaces from the menu. A list of you network adapters will appear. Now click on the "prepare" button next to your wireless adapter. Another dialog will come up. In the section "Capture file(s)" click on "browse..." and choose some location where you want to save the log file. Make sure the box next to "Capture packets in promiscuous mode" is checked (should be checked by default). After that you are done setting up ethereal, click the start button. 5. Start the game on your first psp and go to multiplayer and select the game sharing feature. 6. Power up your second psp and select the game sharing feature from the menu and let it do the transfer. After the transfer is done and the game is started on your second psp stop capturing in ethereal, zip up the file and send it to me or seanraf. 7. If you want to help us even more repeat the steps 4-6 a couple of times, the more dumps we have the easier it will be to reverse engineer the process. Thanks in advance for any help. |
