Default CPU Clock 333MHZ

As many of you know, overclocking a PC could result in overheating/burning out.

I've also heard that the PSP was made for 333MHZ. Whats the truth?

So, then that would mean that the PSP wouldn't overheat from being at 333MHZ correct?

At this point, it is safer to say, "shouldn't" as there is no official psp games that require 333MHz. If Sony purposely design the PSP to be run at 222 while using 333 CPU in order to save battery, then running at 333 could infact overheat the system. But if Sony design the system at 333, while using 222 for most games, and save the 333 for later game that really need it then running at 333 shouldn't overheat it.

I think GTA is going to run at 333Mhz and I doubt Sony would want a bunch of angry people complaining that their PSPs melted why playing GTA, so I'd say it's safe for at least 8 hours at a time.

Sony said no game will ever run at 333Mhz... They capped it out at 222Mhz, and they said they're goiong to keep it there...

But no, there is nothing wrong with running your PSP at 333Mhz... Would it be dangerous to run you 1Ghz computer at 1Ghz???

Because Sony has put the cap at 222Mhz... They just picked there number, and they're gonna stick with it...

I believe that 222 was their target clock speed from the begining, and only made the PSP capable of 333Mhz to make the Specs look better... I believe they never had and intention to run the PSP at 333Mhz...

Yes, if you take out the heat sink & fan. My point is that, just because the CPU spec is rated at 333, doesn't alway mean it's safe to run at 333 w/o proper cooling. That's why I stick w/ my earlier post.

I've seen all the threads about 333MHz being the true speed of the PSP CPU and Sony downclocking only for battery life, but I started getting occasional lockups (followed by a reboot) when playing Burnout at 333MHz.

I don't have this problem playing Burnout at the stock speed and I haven't had lockups in other games or running emulators at 333MHz, so I'm not sure what conclusion to draw from this. Maybe Burnout stresses the CPU more than other games. My PSP is only a few weeks old, I haven't used any firmware flashing homebrew and it doesn't have any problems running at the slower speeds, so maybe there is something more to the stock downclocking than just battery life, or maybe Burnout has some glitches that only appear when running at higher speeds.

Yeah, that was the wide-spread rumor... Then a little while ago (I donno, a couple of months ago) they shot that down, and said 222 was their number...

I remember reading about Hideo Teramoto and Kazunori Yamauchi the creator of the Gran Turismo both saying that that their future game would run at 333Mhz.

Quote:
"Ridge Racers' associate producer Hideo Teramoto recently confirmed in an Edge magazine interview that unlike the underclocked Ridge Racers, Namco will release PSP games in future that run at 333MHz."
Does anyone have a scan of this Edge magazine interview?

I thought they were waiting for a better battery to be available. Also if 222 was their target speed that they are going to stick to then why is clocked down in the games and not on the actual system?

What "I" heard was that the cap was software-wise and not hardware or firmware wise. So thats why homebrew can run at 333MHz. Any game can run at 333MHz if they wanted but its the battery and cooling thats the problem. Sony just pointed out to just run at 222MHz for now so nothing bad could happen.
