Default Firmware v2.0, What can we do

Finding it hard to understand all treads at the moment, can some please tell me what can be done with homebrew on Fireware v2.0.

I know there is a Hello World done, but what about emulation? If do you think it will still be along way off?

It depends on when someone finds a way to access the kernel functions with this exploit.

Oh, and [here] is a link to the wikipedia article about buffer overflows.

first off homebrew running but the size is very limited at the moment so now we need to route another program call into this exploit and then get that call past security.

Edit- darn I was beaten to the punch

Thank you for the link I will read through it later tonight! So does anyone know how long it took to create homebrew after they created Hello World for firmeware v1.5?

It doesn't matter what kind of time frame there was for 1.50. There is no set formula for x number of days between exploit and full utilization of the exploit. The buffer overflow trick is very limited in what it can give devs access to. It will be some unknowable amount of time before we even get something of the caliber of the original 1.50 Hello World running, let alone be able to run software like we do on 1.50.

I understand the anxiety to get homebrew working on 2.0, but questions like yours are really uninformed and pre-suppose that any exploit is equal to any other and thus gives us a reasonable expectation for it's full utilization. That just isn't the case. After all, the Pong demo doesn't even run smooth video yet, and has no controls, there is a lot more left to do before running something like SNES9X.

The real breakthrough will be getting broader access to the PSP through the buffer overflow, so that existing homebrew can be launched. Barring this, better access so that larger homebrew code and the rest of the PSPs systems can be utilized is necessary so that homebrew comparable to that on 1.50 can be developed.
