This program was passed to me by elz in our #pspupdates channel on irc.toc2rta.com - It is a proof of concept for dumping data from a umd to the memory stick.

I wanted to upload the program to show it wasn't a fake but at the same time I believe it would cross into the "grey" area with piracy. If I am corrected by a mod then I will post it otherwise enjoy the good news!

OK if you dump the UMD, it won't be any use on a 2.0 if I'm correct. So what's the big deal appart from the app running on 2.0?

I don't have a ver 2.0 psp so i can't even test if it works. I hope that satansgutter might be able to shead some more light on the topic...

It's just a demo, it doesn't actually dump the entire UMD.

You do realize the reason for dumping or copying games is for legal backup purposes, you are allowed to own a backup as long as you own the orginal and thats why these things arent illegal, so make it backup the full UMD it isnt illegal, because you own the original copy!!!

Exactly. It just shows it can, nothing else. I don't see the point to dump a UMD from 2.0 when you can also do it on 1.5, especially when the dumped ISO still does NOT run on 2.0.

Wow. Let me get this straight.

1. You DON"T allow UMD dumpers. It is legal under digital copyright laws to make backups of media you own. You have to own the UMD to even use this tool. Just because the possiblity exists that the backups could be distributed which is illegal, does not make using the tool illegal. This is the same as me making backups of DVD's I own (300+) which is legal, but it would not be legal for me to distribute copies to other people.

Thanks for making that clear. Now I don't feel bad saying "NO, I can't link to it!!!" Yes so what if it doesn't rip the entire thing - thats 1/2 the point, the author understands why piracy is bad and the point is proved by his/her app not ripping the full umd. (reguardless if it plays or not on your system!)

No one said it was illegal. Things of this nature are decided upon by the site owner. He says no UMD dumpers, so there's no UMD dumpers. It's that simple. I don't have to agree with it, neither do you... but you do have to abide by it while here on these forums. This policy is not up for debate.
