I thought that since some people seem to have a bit difficulty using my POPStation PSP program, since nobody has written a guide yet and people have questions, I'd write a little tutorial about it.
You must prepare your custom images before starting the conversion. Put them in the folder of your PSX ID (e.g. Popstation psp/SLUSXXXXX/ICON0.PNG etc.) for usage in the PSX EBOOT.
If the image isn't there, the software will try the popstation directory itself, and when it isn't there will resort to the BASE.PBP file for the basic needed stuff.
!!! For v4.2 conversions, you need to add _md after the file names (e.g. SLUSXXXXX/ICON0_md.PNG or Popstation PSP/ICON0_md.PNG (defaults) etc.) !!!
So for short (e.g. file=ICON0, PIC0, PIC1; This works for all the images etc in 4.2 conversions (so SND0_md.AT3 and ICON1_md.PMF works too (all except DATA.PSAR and DATA.PSP)) see specifics in the help file included in the original download (txt file)):
Popstation PSP/<mygameid>/<file>.PNG is for v3.1 conversions using this game id
Popstation PSP/<mygameid>/<file>_md.PNG is for v4.2 conversions using this game id
Popstation PSP/<file>.PNG is the defaults for v3.1 conversions (when it can't find specific game pictures (see above))
Popstation PSP/<file>_md.PNG is the defaults for v4.2 conversions (see above).
Popstation PSP/DATA.PSP is also possible instead of BASE's DATA.PSP (v3.1)
Popstation PSP/DATA_md.PSP is the same as above (v4.2)
Popstation PSP/BASE.PBP contains the basic defaults is none of the above is found (BASE.PBP's DATA.PSP (might be replaced by above) and PARAM.SFO (REQUIRED!!!))
Now, as for the guide:
Start menu: No old conversions available.
When you start up the homebrew, it will first say 'loading...' to indicate it's loading the information from your memory stick to resume conversions already done or partly done.
The above menu will appear when you don't have converted anything partly or completely yet.
You will only have the option to start a new conversion first.
The button-press in menus is just simple:
X for confirmation.
Up and Down for selecting other items.
Choose the New conversion option to start the new conversion wizard:
Version select menu for new conversions.
Here you either press X to start a version v4.2 (Multi-eboot 1-5 images) or an old v3.1 (Single boot - 1 image only) conversion.
The v3.1 is about the same (except it uses other files etc) as the v4.2 conversion. Only the v4.2 conversion is covered here now.
Selecting your destination folder.
Now we're selecting your destination folder name for your PSX EBOOT. The folder will be ms0:/PSP/GAME/<YOUR ENTERED TEXT HERE>
It uses the standard text input for the PSP text screen (40 characters max. please consider this when naming your directories and images)
Left/Up/Right/Down: change current selection (green text)
Square: remove last typed character (see plain keyboard's backspace key)
When fully typed, choose done to continue.
Input source file #1/5.
Now you enter the input files for conversion. You need to enter at least one file to continue.
First file entered.
You press done again to continue inputting the next file (till the maximum number of files).
No second image, we're only using one!
Enter an empty filename to skip the rest of the files (for example, if you use only two files, enter the first two files normally and leave the third one empty).
After adding all the files you need, either choose done or have 5 (or 1 in v3.1 conversions) files added.
Now you can select the game title from the psx.db file.
Game select defaults.
Up/Down: up or down one item.
Left/Right: up or down 10 items.
L/R: up or down 100 items.
Cross: Confirm the game's title (and everything that has to do with it (PSX ID is selected now too!)).
Pause menu button (Circle) pressed while adding an image.
While it's converting your image(s), You can press circle to pop up the pause menu.
If you open the pause menu, You will have three options:
Cross: Save the conversion for resuming and quit the homebrew application (return to XMB).
Square: Don't save the conversion and just quit the application (return to XMB).
Circle: Continue adding the image.
Continue the conversion.
After all files are added, it will finish up the PSX EBOOT and save the conversion for resuming.
After the PSX EBOOT is finished, it will quit in five seconds.
Resume conversion option
If you have saved a conversion or finished a conversion, it will be added to the continue options.
When you choose this option, the conversion will continue with the images you specified if it hasn't already completed them.
Completed PSX EBOOTs will continue AFTER all the images are added (just executing the final steps after the images).
Also, if the file names of your images have changed (the images aren't found), it will ask you for their new file names.
Don't enter a different file than the original files, as conversions aren't checked for contents!
I hope you all like the homebrew!
