Default Quake II port

Personally I can't wait as an ex-Q2CTF league player. This will take up a majority of a 512MB card I reckon, well maybe it can fit on a 256MB card just..

Quake 3 requires a 300MHz *PC* processor, the PSP's architecture is different/inferior so you'd need to clock higher. But I think it can still be done if optimized like mad.

The art would have to be optimized as well. For people who will port Q/Q2/Q3, they'd need to develop a tool or script that rips open your PK3 files, scales down textures and optimizes sounds, then packs it back up again, since you can't include the commercial art assets for free.

I think the psp architecture is more optimized then the X86 type so i defo thinbk it could be run on the psp
you're right on the textures though, but then again, makinng a script to downsize the textures isn't THAT hard i guess
you can open'm with let's say winrar and run all the images trough a batch

that depends though
quake3 + mods are just the basic quake 3engine, wich has the edgy sysspecs i talked about with muki.
When you are looking at games that are based on the quake3 engine (mohaa, RTCW) they have slightly higher systemspecs, becaus they are based on the q3 engine but polished up. And you can keep on going
It would be great if we could port RTCW ET to psp tho (but i bet this will be dreams and dreams only) becaus RTCW ET is based on an open source engine, wich we could port to PSP and ET is free so the PK3 files could be "modded" to work on the psp without anny legal problems.
IF that would ever happen (look at the big IF, it's a mighty big if ainit ) you would only be able to play against other RTCW PSP people, becaus allot of servers have punkbuster that would instantly kick you for modded pk3 files.

Erm Q3 is teh suck!!!!!

Ahem. Seriously though, Q3 is utter crap compared to Q2 in terms of gameplay and weapon balance. Q3 was a newbie-friendly Q2 without all the good stuff and cartoon graphics. (Do not even mention the CTF mod! No grapple!) Well IMO.

I haven't played Q2 (i know, shame on me rofl) so i don't know how it was gameplaywise in comparement with Q3. But we all know Q3 engine > Q2 and that is where I am looking towards.

and btw i played a bit of Q3 it isn't that bad imo i liked it actualy (but then again, i haven'tplayed q2)

Or just use the PC versions of the Dreamcast maps which are diddy in comparison to the original maps, no work needed.

I don't know about the DC version, but if you want those, then you'll have to rebuilt them directly from scratch....
So a script that resizez the textures will prolly be for the better

Yes that would be preferable but it would be difficult to make and would take a while. The Dreamcast maps are already freely available for the PC version so if the engine was ported they should play just fine and you would avoid RAM constraints.

Please remove that image from your signature, I should really ban you for putting it up, you know the rules.

Nope, because both are really different engines.

One's an old raycaster engine (more 2.5D than 3D, old tech) and the other actual OpenGL 3D.
