Default What if we made a deal..

with sony that if we pay a small price like 5 bucks or so, we can send our program to them, and they'll sign it and send it back. So then they wouldn't have to worry about piracy since the only homebrew being ran on a 2.01/2.50 is they're approved homebrew.

sounds nice, except the sig can be ripped, and piracy will start up again..... which is why pirates are bad and all pirates should have their penis cut off.

but think about it, if you can't rip the sig from the sony update, then why would they be able to rip the sig from the signed hb?

Remember: Companies (like Sony) like to profit from such deals, the price for this wouldn't be cheap. On another had though, it would attract more to the PSP as a homebrew device and might be cheap

We can't. It isn't NEARLY that easy. I Bent My Wookie is wrong here.

Anyway, this idea has been proposed numerous times. It's already been done with PSP Advance. We can do this if we want.

What I'm hoping is that there will be a way to play homebrew through PSPAdvance. It would make so much sense for there to intentionally have been a way. I mean, there's already a Lua player in that awesome app.

Actually it cant be ripped because.. The 'hash' of the file will change if its modified, and the key itself it 'hashed', thus if you change anything in the file, the 'key' wont work because the hash wont match, and you cant rip the hashed key because that will only match the exact file it comes from..

Understand?
For example, MD5 hash, spits out a long string of characters that match the file in question being hashed.

Message Digest 5. MD5 is a secure hashing function that converts an arbitrarily long data stream into a digest of fixed size.

And you cant reverse engineer an md5 hash, either.

-edit-
Oh, and its actually about $10,000US for license.(sdk)

Not a bad idea... but then what's to stop people posting the file that is now signed? Somebody would do it with one homebrew game, then everybody would have the game signed! I don't think it's going to happen.

yeah but it would go approved from sony, cost like 5$, and sony should realise that more homebrew means more psp users, i myself would never buy a psp if i couldnt use homebrew

You guys are crazy if you think sony will allow homebrew.

They won't even let us use their music cds in our PC without using their crappy media player.

They have even resorted to virus writer tricks to install hidden files & send unauthorised info about you back to their servers.

Sony have really started a war against people doing un-authorised things with their 'property'. They won't take this laying down like microsoft.

It's really not practical. Even if Sony thought it was a good idea, that means they would have to hire a team of coders/hackers to look at and test every homebrew app sent to them to make sure it was safe and wouldn't create any new exploits or ways for the PSP to be hacked. This would take way too long and would cost way more than $5.

MD5 has been cracked on a notebook computer. Check out the Website : http://md5lookup.com/ for reverse engineering MD5

What i mean by reverse engineer is, input a md5, and spit out a password without generating any hashes randomly from text. Thats just a simple brute force.

The characters that make up a hash cannot be reverse engineered directly back to a string.

Actually thats just a giant database of small string/md5 hashes.. (password cracking)

put in the md5 you found on a forum login database, and if its in the database, it will match up and u got ur pass.

Its not really a big achievement.

its easy to hash it, and fast, so they hash millions of small words(password combinations) and put it in a giant database, easy.

from the site:
Project Objective:
To generate and store MD5 hashes, alongside their text counterparts, in a database. To grant a public and extremely quick means of finding a text counterpart to almost any given MD5 hash.
