Default Giga Pack PSPs are only 2.0!

I traded in my PSP via an extended warranty I got, and I got offered two choices: trade it in, sans Gretzky and Spiderman 2 and get a Value Pack, or include the two and get a Giga. I prayed that the Giga was 2.0 or less, and my prayers we're answered when I saw only 2.0! I haven't tried to DG it yet, but at very least I have 2.0 Eboot loader!

They do have a 2.0 to 1.5 downgrader so you're good to go with the giga pack if you want to have 1.5 to let you know :icon_smil .

Yes, they are in Los Angeles for sure... The local Fry's store had about 100 of them two weeks ago (and down to about 20 last week, they seem to be selling well... )

Has anyone tried downgrading a Giga pack PSP to confirm? Im askin this because I remember hearing that one of the countries PSP's (I think it may have been Korea's or so, dont remember) were unable to perform the downgrade for some reason, but still run homebrew. Maby the same block has been implemented on these new PSP's.

This is quite strange. I was almost certain the giga packs would be at least 2.01, but to learn that they are not only 2.0, but that the japanese ones are 2.5 is very confusing indeed. It is like the reverse of the initial launch situation, where japanese psps were launched with the homebrew-capable 1.0 and American PSPs launched with the unhackable (at the time) 1.5. Something is going on here.

Regardless, this dictates whether or not I give my stepdad a GIGA pack or older standard bundle for Christmas. I know he would want to play emulators as he's a fan of the old school, and though I think he'd prefer the 1.5 homebrew method over 2.0's restrictions and unintuitive methods in contrast, he'll probably have to settle for 2.0 as he'll also probably want GTA. At least now I know he has a choice. Plus, I know he wont use that gig, and maybe I can convince him to trade with my 128.

I'd take some photos of my PSP, but that still proves nothing.. People might just think I have 2 PSPs..

Only things I can think of are that would make Gigas 2.01:
A: EB scammed me by putting a used PSP in a Giga box (seems unlikely due to pristine condition of PSP, good experiences with store previously)
B: First Gigas had 2.0 and there has been another, 2.01 shipment (seems unlikely due to how new Gigas are)

I hope this gets straightened out soon, I think the homebrew community deserves to know this.

Seems like all the PSP packs (giga or otherwise) shipping out of Japan NOW are 2.01. I had a hellish time trying to get hold of a 2nd PSP before the firmware window closed.

In the US it is. I said before that my friend went to Wal-Mart and they said it was a 2.01 in the Giga pack, but I went to GameStop and bought one - it was 2.00.

Fundamentally I think you need to either
  • buy from the high street somewhere where they'll let you test the PSP before you buy, to check the firmware version.
  • or buy from a reliable and knowledgeable source, that can verify the version before it ships.

There's most definitely a mix of firmwares in the Gigas, so be careful.

Might be 2.01, might be 2.0. You'll need to check.
