Me too. Your ability to hit the arrows really does rely on the beat. A LOT.

This is great! Can you put in your own mp3s as weel or does it have to be DWI
PSP Firmware: 3.03 OE-C
Memory Stick: 256MB, 1GB, and 4GB
PSN Handle: Hell-Kaiser
Website: Forgotten Memories

The DWI file and the mp3 file are two completely different things. Sure you could put your own mp3 in it but not much would happen. There is a program though that you can use to make your own songs with your own mp3's. I think its at the stepmania site here.

I am a listener of hardcore music (techno not metal). I like trance music too.
From a week I have found the game stepmania. It is wonderfull! I like it very much!
Some day ago I have found PSPRevolution: fantastic!!! It's very good game. Then is only the pre-first release. In my opinion the worst bug is the off sync of the song. Without this the game would be fully playble.
Now I would like to play with hardcore songs, but I don't find hardcore sim. I have searched, but nothing. Have you some link? I have searched on bemanistyle.com, but there is no search for genre. I look for sim that I can use with stepmania for pc too.
Many many compliments to the developers!!
Thankx

Hmmm...someone should find some MP3s of the "World's Fastest Drummer" competition.
I think the fastest was over 1,000 beats in 60 seconds.
Think anyone can beat that in PSP Rev? ;)

Ok, before I begin:
I have read some posts here and there but I haven't read the full thread, so, do not bash on me if some of those bugs has been reported before. Also I will personally contact DeNitro about those because I know some solutions.
Also, congratulation on such amazing release ! Being DDR fan myself, and having stepmania with about 4 gig of songs, I think I can consider myself as quite good in seeing things, so, I want to try and improve this amazing program.
Bug #1: Lag Into Game due to Image
As I already seen mentionned, images can be problematic and can cause arrow lag. This is most probably because the image rendering function might be slow, and whenever an image is processed (like 640x480, or whatever resolution that is quite big for the PSP) it lags the arrows. I took one song in particular to test this, Chateau at Heavy. With the background, the arrows were not sync, although, I removed the background, and as expected, the arrows are almost sync (I say almost because there is a slight lag whenever you got tons of arrows coming up). Although, this can easily be fixed.
Bug #2: File List Crashes
Whenever I am on my file list for an album/section, if I got too much stuff in it, it might crash my software at times. It's not major, because it doesn't always do it. This might just be a slight problem whenever it has to scroll the files. Nothing serious here, but thought I'd point it out.
Bug #3: Full Length Songs can be Problematic
This doesn't concern much songs, but some of the full length songs (with more than 3 minutes or more than 5 minutes) are prompt to lag, unsync and/or crash depending on the difficulty you play them. I tested this with the ParaParaParadise Megamix Stepfile. It's about a 15 minutes long file, so I thought I could see if you had any problems with the mp3 file loading and memory buffering, but this seems to be fine at a certain extent, but then, it depends on the stepfile too, because another song in the same spirit, with a big length I play with, worked perfectly.
Bug #4: Three-Arrows might not always work / be unsync on register
I played a song with three-arrows in it, they are fine somtimes, but also, it seems to cause some problems at times. Either they don't work at all (miss) or they are unsync on register. This might only be related to other problems with the memory, or maybe the PSP has problems registering more than 2 buttons at the same time, but that would surprise me though.
Features I would like to see (and if you need help, I could help with):
1. Basic Modifiers - What I mean by those are basic speed modifiers and end-of-song modifiers. Speeds like 0.5x 1x 1.5x 2x, etc... and maybe C200/C400 would be nice to have.
2. Ticking Noise - The metronome sound would be a nice addition to add eventually, although, it worries me over the memory.
3. Error management - Sometimes whenever the song isn't able to load or might unsync due to the image file size, it would be nice to notify the user and avoid the loading of this file to avoid the steps to unsync. This shouldn't be too much of a problem.
4. Ratings - I mean like the A-F grades, those aren't hard to do and works with purcentages, at least, in Stepmania they do.
5. Live Reports - (this is something useless to have in an alpha version, just an idea i bring in whenever you wanna improve this) Instead of having the arrows centered, i would put them on the left side, and have somekind of grade report on the right. This has been seen into Stepmania with SMonline. I think it has been removed since then.
Overall, keep up the good work, you got my vote 100% over this !

Gah, I STILL can't get this to work. I'm running on 2.0 using eboot v 8.5(8 crashed my psp every time). I have it as psp/game/psprevol/eboot.pbp with the 4 folders in there. However, everytime I try to run it it always says "error: game can only be run from psp/game/psprevol" which is where i have everything placed in the right folders. Am I overlooking something small when adding this?
-

Where exactly do you have the four folders?

Ah, nevermind. I got it to work. I accidently kept the 1.0 EBOOT ONLY folder inside of psprevol so it was pspsrevol/1.0 EBOOT ONLY/ then the rest of the files. Just needed to get rid of that folder.

It may of been mentioned but, some of the lag is caused by setting created in stepmania and can be adjusted by editing the .sm file in notepad.
New bug - homebrew song - I created a song but all of a sudden it starts and emmidatly finishes reading 0 steps !.
Request - Screen&controll rotate when a player gets good.

This is not a bug, this is an error in your stepfile. You should check it back and check that all difficulties are there and test it within stepmania (also you should create your stepfile with it if you are not doing it already).

I have to post fast, cant check back to see if this has been posted already.
After playing this game in Eboot Loader 08 (havent tried this in 8.5 yet) and returning to the loader menu, then playing another game, strange glitches occur. For example, if you exit PSPRevolution, then play it again, you will have no sound. Same for emulators like NES, no sound after playing PSPRevolution. In addition, my SNES (Y's not tyl) simply freezes up after selecting a rom.

I wanted to let you guys know we are still working hard on the next release. The focus has been on song compatibility but we have some other stuff added as well. The main thing holding us up is addressing the out of sync songs. We implemented a new method of syncing that seems to fix a lot of them, but with the new method, some of the songs that were fine before may have been inadvertently broken. Devin923 is going to do some mass song testing and we'll see if the syncing changes are good for release.
I don't have a 2.0 PSP, so would someone with a 2.0 like to test the new build? I made a change that hopefully cancels the need to change the games folder name but I want to make sure I didn't just break it instead :icon_wink
Here's a Preview of the changes already done, more may be added before release
- Increased Song Compatibility
- No longer need to change the folder name for v2.0 Eboot Loader
- Fixed reading of interlaced PNG files which would crash the song load screen before
- Fixed rare cases of broken hold notes
- Song Freezes now supported (Like in Sandstorm)
- Changed how some song's are synced
- Holds active a little longer after button release
- Song select screen now scrolls lists with more than 24 entries
- Fixed bug where holds very close to a step on same column being hit with the step hit
- Miss now counted as soon as a step goes out of "boo" range
- Combo numbers are outlined for more definition
- Beginner "feet" color added
- Fixed missing difficulty text during game and score screen
- Pressing several buttons at once no longer crashes song select screen
Thanks again for the great feedback and support :icon_smil

DeNitro, if you would like I can do some test with my psp with 2.0 firmware.
I am not very good player, I had known StepMania some days ago, but I have downloaded immediately PSPRevolution, it's marvellous ;-)
I don't have many free time, but some test at evening is possible, if you want.
Ok?
Thanks for your great work.
Compliments.
