Default improving d-pad

Has anyone out there ever managed to pull off hadokens in SFTurboII on the psp. I mean the d-pad really sucks on diagonals resulting of the bad form and a surface with no grip. Last night I was home playing it on the Ps2 with some mates and that idea came: replacing that evidence of a product design mistake with the dual shock d-pad since i have one spare that is broken. Their sizes turns out to be almost the same (at least what u can tell from just looking outside). I will give it a try tomorrow after stopping by my mom's house to borrow some screw drivers (yeah i got none at home). Any results will be posted soon.
Now my question was whether anybody has been trying this out or planning to do so.

Yes hadoukens are extremely hard to do because of the reasons you stated above. I know how you feel

Not that i know of. I hope the difference is enough to compensate for the appearance.
I would have thought the one for the psp was going to be thinner and a different design underneath.
Let us know what happens all the same.

well in guilty gear xx #reload they fixed that by having a "easy mode" for the d-pad. Don't know how they managed to pull it off but if you want to start somewhere check out the game and you will see what i mean ^__^

Its for SNES right? Try switching the DPAD with the ANALOGUE stick. I play king of fighters for NEO GEO CD and its tough to do down forward, quater turns, 3 quarter turns etc with the DPAD so I used the ANALOGUE stick, it really helps!

this may just work. i broke the analog button off of my ps2 controller and (with some shaving around the edges) its a perfect fit into the psp's analog. you need to post your results soon, i am actually going to try this with the remains of my ps2 controller aswell

ok, my ps2 conrtoller is dead and i have retrieved the d pad and its inner workings, i held the ps2 dpad up to the psp's (while it was still installed in the psp) as well as watched the psp to tv install video and i have have some mixed thoughts. i think that the actual d pad will fit fine, but the rubber part that it sits on (it gives the d pad movement) is what we need and i dont know if that will directly fit. i wont know untill i have removed my faceplate, and i still need to figure out how lol.

OK PEOPLE! after sweating my ass off and being as carefull as humanly possible for 45 mins, i have tested to see if the PS2 d - pad can work with the psp and the answer is NO. unfortunatly the ps2 d pad is slightly bigger than the psp's, and the only way to make it fit would be to make it smaller, thus giving us a psp d pad. what makes the ps2 d pad more functional is that it is taller so as you see we are S.O.O.L. in the future i may try to mod a faceplate so that all the ps2 d-pad bits (green rubber base, white plastic x shaped bit and the actual d pad) fit nicely. who knows, maybe we can even improve the analog. anyways there you have it. i hope i saved people some trouble, but this was a big price to pay for the loss of my warentee and a hair underneath my screen

have u tried just replacing the d-pad without the rubber part? I think diagonals are hard to do because of the form of the psp's d-pad.It tends to get lower towards the middle so there is almost no way to press two directional buttons simultaneously. So it's sufficient only to replace the d-pad.

one question ive had ever since buying the psp is, why didnt they go with a pressure sensitive dpad?

i mean, thats what allows for the ps2s controller to pull off 16directions on one, instead where stuck with 8, i mean its not like have a second analog, it doesnt require a design recall, just change the backings

eh... i wish...

I've seen a HW mod on another forum where someone trimmed the bits under a ps2 pad dpad and put it under the psp dpad to raise it up, works perfect. Doing it whenever I finally replace my faceplate.

EDIt- ps2 is only pressure sensitive on the BUTTONs, the triangle, square, circle and X. triggers and dpad are not, though the dpad is 100x betetr than the psp one. I'd wager they did it to cut costs, like every other thing they got wrong on psp (crappy lcd response time on a GAME machine? they are idiots)

Make your PSP d-pad work.
This is the guide I used to fix my dpad. It works wonders. I can pull off fireballs and dragon punches with ease, as well as move diagonally In shooters reliably.

I used the plastic from the back of a presentation binder as I did not have an NES sleeve handy. One thing he does not mention is, remove the six screws on the back of the unit before removing the one on the bottom edge, otherwise its too tight to remove.

A friend of mine has a launch day US psp and his d-pad is fine, but it seems more recently sony has modified it a little, possibly to discourage emulation. I also hear that the white psp has a better d-pad.

I really don't think a ps2 dpad would even fit inside there (there really isnt much extra room) and if it did I would worry about the right side of it rubbing against or breaking the edge of the screen. Oh, and the ps2's d-pad is pressure sensitive, although it is used in all of maybe 2 games.

Yeah, listen too PeeBee ^ ^ ^ ^

That is one of the cleanest and most functional hardware mods I've ever seen for the PSP. So if you like to play emulators alot, I would definitely follow through with it, it works wonders . My D-Pad is at least 60% better now because of it.

Btw, welcome to the forums .

That's not true. The D-Pad is pressure sensitive. So are the sholder buttons. I know this for a fact. I know it works with more games but the only ones I know of off hand are GTA VC and maybe III. Go try it if you don't believe me. Just push the up button very softly and Tommy will walk, not run like the normal.
