Why do you ask? You update without thinking? Cant help you there. If you were an active member here you would have known better.

Heh, sorry...Not yet.
I didn't update this time...I thought about it before I updated. I knew I wasn't going to make use of any of the "new" features.

I'm stuck with 1.5 because the LocationFree thing fooled me -_-
But I have hope that this FW will eventually get exploited.

Edit: I mean 2.5

Lol, all new members should be directed to a bullet pointed short message informing them what they can/cannot do with each firmware version before they join.

There was a thread around here where someone mentioned a possible heap overflow that crashed 2.5 and didn't crash 2.6. (i.e. a possible security hole Sony plugged in 2.6, indicating it may be worth a look)

That may be worth the research but the guy working on it said there are other publicly known avenue's of attack which seem easier right now.

the RSS feature in 2.6 is said to be a possible exploit

the overflow that crashes 2.5 and doesnt crash 2.6 tells me that there was an exploit in 2.5 using it, but that doesnt really matter now, i think people should concetrate on exploiting 2.6

well everyone knows that 2.5 is really buggy, they might have fixed some of he crashes in it. btw, crashes do NOTHING but piss me off.

Yea I don't think that Sony fixed an exploit, remember they are trying to make the firmware secure AND bugfree, not just exploit free! Maybe it was just a bug...

i think if 2.50 ever got cracked, the same method would work on 2.60. There wasn't any mention in the update pack for extra security.

Regardless of what the patchnotes said, there are already quite a few known fixes in v2.6. Several of the promising crashes-that-want-to-be-exploits don't work at all on 2.6, in ways that are very consistent with patches having been put in place.

One persons bugfix is another persons security patch?
