So if i understood the front page correctly McZonk has removed the firmware chip for the PSP and is working on flashing it without the PSP. How about we start working on coustom firmwares if this is possible. Does anyone else think it's a good idea?

This is definitely not a DIY project, but as the front page article says, the trace lengths of the flash are less important. And this is what we're interested in. If it's possible to put the RAM on a 'shim' type card (There's plenty of space between the CPU + the RAM), it would be possible to mount another flash chip there. It doesn't have to be a full combo chip, since you're _only_ switching out the flash. This all assumes the flash part is a bolt-on, of course, rather than fully-integrated as a region in the RAM memory map. Interesting if it comes through, but expensive. Cheers, Allan. |

One can still use a spacer for the flash, all that is needed is to have the RAM/Flash chip ontop of it with the RAM part redirected directly (think holes in the strip or PCB) that would make the RAM maybe a little slower but the timing would still be OK, the flash could then be redirected to a smart switch and then be directed back to the flash...
Well a dual flashsystem is indeed possible, but it will not be easy or cheap (I think up to a 100usd for jobcost and then extra for pcb/flash)... Best regards! |
